Gold Membership Still Showing After Cancellation – Cannot Join Friends & Family Plan

Full Game Analysis (Description of the Issue):

I feel like I’m stuck in a position with no legal moves.

I previously had a Gold Chess.com membership that was active through July. A family member recently purchased the Friends & Family plan and sent me an invitation so I could join under their account.

To make that possible, I cancelled/removed my Gold membership on my account. However, the system still shows that my account has an active Gold membership, and because of that it will not allow me to join the Friends & Family plan.

So currently the position looks like this:

  • The Friends & Family plan has already been purchased on a family member’s account.
  • I cancelled my Gold membership so I could join the family plan.
  • My account still shows Gold status, even though it was removed.
  • Because of this, the system will not allow my account to connect to the Friends & Family plan.

I also tried using the support bot Chessica, but unfortunately it was not helpful in resolving the issue or providing a path to fix it.

Endgame Goal (What I Would Like to Happen):

I would like my account to be fully removed from the individual Gold membership so I can join the Friends & Family plan that has already been paid for.

I do not mind losing the remaining value from the Gold membership if necessary. My goal is simply to have my account added to the family plan and receive the benefits through that plan instead.

If someone from support could clear the Gold membership status from my account or manually allow the account to join the Friends & Family plan, that would resolve the issue.

Your only option is to use the support tool. If you explain the problem sufficiently, and the tool doesn't transfer to staff, try something like Contact an Agent

Kinda wild issue, but we have the same. Hope support can help!

@Martin_Stahl Do you happen to know if a US family plan can accept EU family members? I know not all countries are compatible, or someone would just but it very cheaply and add "rich" people to it. But the US is $200 and the EU more at €200. So we're good, right?
