Greeter not there

Just joined a couple of days ago and selected to be greeted.  Never have played online chess, so thought that would help.  Unfortunately, it appears that my greeter had programmed in an opening move, or made the move himself, and then went on vacation!  What will it do to my rank if I cancel the game (he's made one move, I've made 2).

Firstly, it's probably unrated so it won't affect your score. If for some reason it isn't, it won't affect your score until both playes have made at least 3 moves.

Anyway you can keep the game like this untill he comes back, this won't forbidde you from starting new game(s) with other players.

If you want to start a new online game, you may use "Play", then "Online chess" and then either "Create a new game" to set your requirements or "Open Seeks" to see the other people also searching for chess partners.

Here online chess is more like correspondance chess so a game may last something like one month, so don't wait after your oppononent to move in the minute or you'll quick be disapointed.

If you want to play a quick game, you should try out Live chess were the idea is more to have a whole game in less than one hour.

Again welcome and have fun.

The "Greeting" games have a time limit of 3 days, and are unrated. As mentioned before, you can either wait to see if he comes back, or end the game — neither affects your rating in any way.

Yep don't worry, greeter games are unrated, and if you abort the game (which you can only do in the first couple of moves) then no rating points are lost even if it is rated, I believe.

Although, as a Greeter myself, I have to say that it's odd that the guy hasn't come back. Usually it's the Greeter who makes the move and the 'Greetee' who doesn't come back! :p

Thanks, so nice to have a number of you to respond!  I use forums quite frequently in the video & photo editing area, and others for software.  And they are invaluable - IF one can receive useful and civil responses in a timely manner.  That appears to be the case here too.  Just another plus for being a member here.  Thanks again.
