I lost to a higher rated opponent in rapid game and lost 14 points, would have been something like 7 under normal circumstances. Have there been changes in the scoring system recently or is it a bug?

No. It hasn't changed.
You hadn't played any rated games in more than 3 months, so your rating's RD value had increased. When that happens, your rating adjusts more rapidly.
