You can't just move your king (or any other piece, for that matter) between two squares over and over again to call it a draw. If your opponent is making progress of his own, then why should the game be drawn?
It isn't the moves that must be repeated, but the position. Basically, at three different points in the game, the board must look the same with the following additional factors:
1.) It is the same player to move each time. If it is white to move one time and black to move another, those are considered different positions.
2.) The same castling opportunities have to be present. If one player moves a king and this makes them unable to castle, then you only can count the repetitions that happen after that. Same as if a rook move breaks the opportunity to castle with it.
3.) En passant opportunities can not be available during any of the repeated positions. If an en passant capture is available the first time, then it doesn't count since it can't be available any time after that.
How does a 3 way repitition work? In my last game I repeatedly move my king (seven times the same move) and I could not claim a draw? Did I miss something in the rules?
Thanx
