Hello, I have finally decided to look into the aforementioned problem, and I can count 3-4 times in the last month where my opponent is going in and out of connection and then takes a very long time to move, with timer decreasing, and eventually I get game lost by abandonment.
I have done the following: let my opponents clock run to zero, abandonment, refreshed the screen, abandonment, and opened a duplicate tab...abandonment.
It appears other people experiencing the same glitch and it seems it might me manipulable, or the very least exploitable, nonetheless, any information is appreciated.

Generally speaking, if you keep seeing that, it's actually your connection to the server that's having issues, and could be somewhere between you and your opponent, though it could be caused client side.
Since the two clients never connect with each other, your opponent's can't impact your connection
