so i've been playing on chess.com for a while and know how every piece moves except for the king, i don't know how the king moves or why some pieces can't move due to the king. any help?

The king moves one square in any direction. If you haven’t moved your king or your rook in the game, and the space between the two is clear you can move you king two spaces towards the rook and the rooks moves to the other side of the king. This is known as castling.

thanks, but i kinda meant why does sometimes the king get to move on some spaces but not others?

If the king is able to move to a square but an enemy piece can capture on that square, the king cannot move there. Because if the king moves into a position it can be taken in, you would be self checkmated, and you cannot move into check. If you are trying to castle and cannot and you haven’t moved the king and the rook you are going to castle with, it would because the king would move through check or end up in check
