I can't find the Computer Analysis site anywhere on chess.com, how does that wok??

MM78

when you have finished your game or later on go into the finished game in your games archive and click on Comp analysyis, after a while you get a message from chess.com with a link to the analysis.

Can I have it analyze a game that I didn't play in chess.com? Like, entering the sequence of moves?

Patzer24

No, at this time it is not possible to use the Computer Analysis feature for games played away from Chess.com however this has been added to the feature suggestion list. Hopefully this will be available in the near future!

Vasmarok

Wouldn't that allow someone to type in and analyze an ongoing game (which would be cheating)?

I think the moral hazard is far out-weighed by the benefit of allowing users to learn from mistakes they've made outside of chess.com

There is no need to give an inhouse tool for cheaters. If you are truly an honest guy, try to get a free chess engine that can analyze games. I believe Wikipedia has a list of them.

It would be an incredibly stupid way to get caught cheating since the game your playing would match the game you submitted if checked....

I can't find comp analysis where it's supposed to be at.

All it has is

Add to my Friend List
Give a Trophy

Is it a live chess game or a turn based one?

That's true, but chess.com has to implement checking against the player's ongoing games. Even in that case, a cheater could maintain a second account (which is also illegal) and type in the game of his/her ongoing game under a different name. So chess.com really should check the game against all ongoing games, which I don't know how fast it can be. Furthermore a cheater could analyze here a game, that is ongoing on another site. Well if someone wants to cheat, he/she should make at least the effort to purchase a program and install it on his/her computer. We should not give them free tools.

This site is all about free tools, and I actually find the case you make about the ability for someone who wants to misuse those tools to simply install a facsimile of them on their own machine outside of the scope of detection to be a good argument for making them available here:

On one hand, those who want to avoid detection can do it now just as easily as they can with the tools available and on the other those who might abuse the ones made available will be easy to detect.

live chess. I used to be able to analyse those all the time. Why did they change it?

TheGrobe

I'm pretty sure that there's an issue right now with games from the new live chess not being available for analysis.  I thought I'd seen it posted elsewhere and I just checked my one game on the new verison and the option isn't there for me either.

Whether it's a bug or by design I'm not sure -- the new live chess is intentionally stripped down but this doesn't strike me as something that would affect the live chess performance so I'm not sure what value there could be in intentionally not making it available aside from the time and effort it would take to include it.
