I Just Played Well Above My Rating, Am I Now Doomed?

I played as 2000 at 96-something % simply because I knew the opening (Vienna, I've played it almost 1500 times on this site) and my opponent seemed to walk into every trap.

Am I about to be banned as a cheater?

If you're playing fairly, you have nothing to worry about.

An astonishingly naive response! I wonder if this person believes anyone with authority over them is always correct. Always fair. Never makes mistakes. Or is it only chess.com that has achieved this godlike ability?

The site won't close your account for a fair play violation of you are playing fairly, it's as simple as that.

Just maybe you should have looked to see who Martin is before you responded? LOL.

So how does that change matters?

Hover your mouse over the pawn after his name. It says "moderator account", so his say-so in these matters bears more weight than the average forum denizen.

Whether he's a moderator or not his response amounts to: do not question your betters, they (or in this case, we) are always right. "If you are playing fairly, then you have nothing to worry about" because we do not make mistakes, our judgements have godlike accuracy. This does not ease my worries. It makes them worse.

To compare and contrast. A useful response might have been: "This sometimes happens for lower-rated players because sometimes the only obviously correct moves are those anyone could see from grand-master down to your level. And we factor this into our decisions".

Now I don't know whether that is true or not. But if it were true, such a response would have been useful. It would have contained information. Information that would have eased my worries. The response I got, however, was condescending and information-free. The fact that it was delivered by a moderator, someone who could have provided such reassurance, doesn't improve the quality of that response.

False positive closures are rare

"False positive closures are rare" or at least the ones you know about, or are willing to admit to.

As a 1200-something player, I played with 90-something accuracy in the game I linked to. As if I were a 2000-something player. Is there anything about that game, and possibly in conjunction with my games generally, that allows you to say that the probability of me having cheated while playing it falls far below the level that would allow you to say I cheated?

Now that question only requires a Yes/No response. By responding in such a way, you would not be revealing any of the top-secret criteria you use to make such calls.

Having looked at that game, your opponent made an opening error (exf4) and then played aimlessly while you picked a bunch of second best, though still effective, moves. I'm thinking that if you keep pursuing this here, you'll be directed to the Cheating Forum for any further discussion and the thread will be closed.

I don't see any such forum on the forums page: https://www.chess.com/forum There were no forums with 'Cheat' or 'Fair-Play' in their titles. So as it is, Help & Support seemed the most relevant to the topic. But, if there is a more appropriate forum for such discussions, perhaps you could provide a link?

Jhon_isol

My son is a 500 and got banned twice here due to fair play policy without doing anything wrong, you can expect anything.

Where is this "Cheating Forum"? Link please.

A secretive members-only club is where you all discuss cheating. Well, I suppose that makes sense.
