I will never pay a cent to chess.com

I wouldn't say the site constantly crashes. Of course, there are some problems with it, but aside from live chess, everything works great imho

Thank you Lucena, I will take that as a flattering remark. I have found in my experience that reactionary people are not looking out for the consumer’s wellbeing, they are only looking out for themselves and what gains can be made from it, hence reactionary. If you blamelessly walk through the vast catechisms of life then you are surely asking for a consequence, and then you will want me to reach out my hand and help and I probably will.

So when are you going to run out of Thesaurus room you egocentric faux-erudite?

Also I point you to http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/reactionary where you apparently infer that an extreme conservative looks out for themselves only when a true reactionary is usually looking to return things to a previous system.

Not to mention that she completely misused the big-sounding word "catechism."  Since she doesn't know the meaning of catechism, it is probably safe to say she isn't CatholicSmile  Ironically, the way she used "catechism" constitutes a "catachresis" (the misuse of a word).

nice pick up :)

i always find the best arguments are made in the simplest of terms....... they don't need the impact of 'big-sounding words'

if you don't understand the reason for asking for the credit card info, take a few seconds to think about it. :)

first off, what would prevent someone from just continually signing up over and over again and abusing the system?

secondly, if you aren't willing to put in your credit card for the trial, what are the chances that you are really interested in getting a membership? slim to none. so there is no reason to offer you the free trial.

finally, there is really nothing on this site that you can experience with the free trial that you can't taste without it (except for the ads). we give trials, tests, and demos of everything.

-----------------------------------------------

Ive been active for couple of months now, I might have overeacted yesterday from the frustation but you get what you paid for''

www.yahoo.com have already attempted to rob me 55$, Illegally charging my credit card, but I called my bank and told them Im not paying that.. its fraud!!! From that moment I became reluctant to give my credit card info, why would I give out my credit card number for something free?? It's simply a scam after you give out that credit card info the company will forever keep your credit card details and charge you when you least expect it without your authorization and I dont have time to read a boring 20 page signup agreement for them to use in court. After seeing on a picture that chess.com had some sympathy for john mccain i Immediately considered paying for upgrade, but then I get around 10 spam messages when I log on chess.com and a good part of them Is asking my credit card information and the world League Ive been awaiting so long I dont know where it is, someone told me im already playing in itand that Im ignorant.

Anyway good luck to chess.com entreprise but paying or not I do click your ads sometimes which bring you around 5 to 55 cents per click and freeness of information acces is now a standard on the internet, companies are not competing to sell services, theyre more like competing for who has the best free information and services. Like I said sorry If i was a bit uncontrolled yesterday but good luck to chess.com entreprise and if you would like to kick me out then feel free to do so

Edit: But meanwhile how do I play in world league or am I already playing without knowing it?

erik

you're in no danger of being kicked out :) i just wanted to explain why we require credit card for free trial.

Fianjello

i love this website. it offers a lot even if its a free account we shouldnt ask for more especailly unlimited simul games for free members unlike other websites.

hondo4504

U got it right chess.com!

batgirl

This thread is positively faux-catechismal.

Drunk-Elephant

I can't believe how calm and reasonable Erik is, in dealing with this person.  He really shows his maturity and patience.  If it was me, I would have lost my temper almost immediately.

You said you joined the Romania group.  Go to My Groups under Groups and then click on Romania and then 'Team Matches'.  You're too late now, though... at least, my World League game started.  So maybe next round you can get into the match.

Mus, if you don't wanna pay, then don't. It's your choice to do so. There's really no need to start a forum topic about it.

Now, for future posters, DO NOT FEED THE TROLLS.

What does don't feed the trolls mean. Is it something like what cheater_1 did?

Yeah that is exactly what I was going to say!

TehPantz

Your argument is very unconvincing :P

I would love an anti-addiction feature. I have a history of Internet addiction in various forms, and the way it's going, perhaps I shouldn't stay on chess.com for long.

On the other hand, if you could make it so that I could only login between some times I could set, protected with a separate password (so only my girlfriend has it)...

It's a bit of an odd feature, and I'm sure it's not what the masses would like to see first, but I promise to pay if you do happen to implement it :-)

Erik has already considered this ... http://www.chess.com/forum/view/community/voluntary-restraint

The other day I was comming at my computer a little stressed already and when I still didint know what was up with world league and that message from chess.com came up I couldnt believe my eyes they were giving me 7 days FREE tryout and then when i clicked and asked me for my credit card I felt like taking my baseball bat and smash the computer into a thousand pieces. I realise this forum is a bit pointless and sorry to anyone I could have offended here. Chess is a very good chess site, just the internet is a bit frustrating sometimes
