intervention

I'm been playing a team match game for over six months with an opponent who has been completely lost for the last two or three months. He will use the full time limit for the simplest forced moves and then continuously goes on vacation. And this is only the first of two scheduled games! The match result is already determined. Is there some way I can avoid playing the second game with him without the usual rating point penalty? And if I do have to play him can I request some sort of intervention if ( when ) he pulls the same stunt again?

Quick answer - no, you just have to wait it out.

You can put him on your banned list, I think that takes care of the details.

I agree with dajacca.  Playing on in a lost position where there's some hope with faulty play from the other side, with enough mating material and a bunch of pieces still left on the board, is different from delaying a sure mate combo.   People are allowed to use their full time, as well as use vacation... but you can make a support ticket to report someone you think is hopelessly stalling, if they really are, and they can be warned for it

for me personally, it's easy to ignore the games where it isn't my move.  I can see why you'd want a tournament to hurry up, but six months and longer for a tournament actually is pretty standard.

Thank you all for your useful insights! Let me mention to mirage that this is a match not a tournament and I believe the other games are long over. And to fezzik : thank you for your kind comments but I am more concerned with having a repeat of this experience than just terminating this one game. If needs be, I'll mate him.

My opponent is continuing his stalling but even if he uses all his remaining vacation time I'll just get a queen and mate him sometime in the next two months. But can I ban him after the game? This is the first of two scheduled games in a team match that is otherwise long since over and whose outcome has long since been determined.

I won the first game and , perhaps a little prematurely, resigned the second. I'm glad to be done with it and will never play this individual again. I'll share more tomorrow, but for now, its too late in L.A. Talk to you then!
