iPhone/iPad Notification Badges Don’t Update Between Devices

Let me describe my problem:

  1. I get a notification on one of my devices that a Daily Game opponent has played, say on my iPhone. The Chess.com app icon on my iPhone will correctly show a badge notification (red circle with white number) in the upper right corner saying “1”, because It is my turn to play in one game.
  2. I open the Chess.com app on my iPhone and make my game move. The “1” badge on the iPhone app icon correctly goes away because it is no longer my turn to play in any game.
  3. Hours later, I look at another device, say my iPad, and a “1” badge is on the Chess.com app icon on the iPad. This is the case even though it is still not my turn to play in any game. A “1” badge was created on my iPhone and iPad app icons when it was my turn to play, but the badge was only cleared on the device where I opened the Chess.com app, in this case the iPhone.
  4. If I open the Chess.com app on the second device, in this case the iPad, the app then recognizes I don’t have any games where it is my turn. The app then correctly removes the”1”  badge on the second device too.
  5. This problem happens again and again, whether it’s iPhone first and iPad second or vice versa. It happens whether I am playing one Daily Game or multiple Daily Games. I am running the latest version of the Chess.com app, Background App Refresh is enabled for the app on both devices, and I have tried restarting both devices. Nothing has helped.

Am I doing something wrong? Is this a bug? Or are notifications not intended to sync across iOS/iPadOS devices? (I really wish they did.)

Thanks for reading and for any help you can offer.

Notifications will not update across devices if they have received them. It's not a bug; it's just that the system isn't set up to clear notifications on other devices.
