Its what i use, and it is a very good FREE alternative to chessbase.

The only caveat is that SourceForge was sold recently, and the new owner has started bundling crapware into some of the downloads, I guess to try to monetize some of the purchase price. I don't know whether any crapware is being bundled with Chessdb, but you might want to be a little careful.

I ran the ChessDB files through VirusTotal. For the latest version 3.6.19 beta 1 files, AVG was the only AV package out of 54 AVs that flagged it as having a virus. My guess is that it's probably just a false positive from AVG and probably clean from crapware.

I also tested the older version 3.6.15 and it checked out clean.

Ditto...I checked it too and its ok.

The serious ad blockers (e.g. the ones that don't use paid whitelists) have sourceforge banned/ blocked.

i use it mainly to see what my opponents play and prepare openings against them

Yeah, my uBlock Origin blocks it. I had to temporarily allow SourceForge to download the files so I could check the files.

I also use the same ad blocker under Firefox- it's one of the most effective around, and surely enough the most honest.

ChessDB was a fork of SCID and no longer maintained. You might be better off using SCID or SCIDvsPC instead.

That's a good Information Age article that you linked to. Everyone who downloads from SourceForge should read it. I guess the situation is worse than I imagined. Frown
