Is this an Android app v4.2.9 bug for everyone or just me, or did this feature get removed?

One great way to improve at chess is to learn by watching others play.

In the Android app Select Watch:

Select Tournaments:

Select a Tournament to Watch and the Standings and Games are now always Blank:

In previous versions of the Android app (v4.2.7 and v4.2.8), this worked fine. Is this an Android app v4.2.9 bug for everyone or just me, or did this feature get removed?

I'm on 4.2.10 and see the same thing.

Ok @Martin_Stahl, I reported this in the app feedback to see what they say about it. Perhaps the feature has been removed from the Android app on purpose.

I can still Watch Titled Games using the Android app, and I can use the Chrome mobile Web app to Watch Tournament Games by following this procedure; How can I watch a game?

Thanks again for your help.

My guess it's a bug or backend problem with how the app gets the games.

I think you are right @Martin_Stahl. I would not be surprised to learn that this "bug" is somehow related to the New Events Feature

Perhaps a future release of the Android app will replace the Watch Games functionality with the New Events functionality.

My frustration is when I'm in an Swiss arena tournament and I hit the watch button after my game is over to watch the other people playing. They don't show up. So I'm sitting around twiddling my thumbs because I don't want to go off and do something else when my next game will start any moment. These are 3/0 Blitz and every second counts.

Thanks for your input. I haven't Joined any tournaments yet myself, so I wasn't sure if this feature was changed to only allow tournament participants to view Games / Standings. If you are seeing the same problem as a participant, than that is not the case.

By the way, I have been in contact with Support to try and resolve this issue but with no success so it has been escalated to the app Developers to get their input on the problem.

I just noticed last night when I finally did join another Swiss Arena tournament via the app, that the bug has been fixed. I am able to see the standings, and watch other people's games after mine finishes, before the next round starts. My hats off to the Developers.👍

I’m not sure if it’s fixed. You were probably just  lucky. If you can see yourself in lineup when joining the tournament  it means no problem. If you can’t see yourself in lineup, just log out, log in before the tournament starts. That usually fix it.

I just looked at a tournament and could see the games list and standings.

What version of the app are you running? Just today my Android app version upgraded to v4.2.10 and I still can't watch any Tournaments as a non-participant.

@KingMoored I don’t use android. But I see same problem oh iOS app. I assume it doesn’t matter iOS or android? Same problem and same solution?

I just thought of this: for very low rated players, try to be the very first to join a tournament so you can see yourself in lineup. Once there, don’t visit the website via app. Just stay there. Go do something else until the tournament starts.

I don't use Apple iOS so I really can't comment on what you are seeing, however, if you as an iOS Apple user are experiencing a similar problem as the Android OS users when viewing Tournament Standings and Games, then perhaps both the Android app and the iOS app problems are related to the new migration of chess.com to using the New Events Feature

4.2.11

If you just updated, then it must still be in the beta channel. My guess is it won't take long to be released for everyone.

KingMoored

Ok @Martin_Stahl thank you. I joined the beta app program and yes indeed this bug has been fixed in v4.2.11!

Also, I see the Developers fixed this bug in v4.2.11; Is this an Android app v4.2.7 bug for everyone or just me?

Thank you for all you do.
