Chess.com could of course improve the user experience by signing the applet.

Maybe it costs money to sign the applet. Maybe java ask like a 5% or few cents for everytime the thing is used, and that would ruin chess.com?

Did you try the workaround with the Exception Site List?

yes, and it doesn't work on my computer, let's see if it works for someone else.

Did you add http://cssjs.chesscomfiles.com?

I tried that too and it didn't work and then I stumbled onto this thread while looking for help.

Now I also updated my Java and can reproduce the issue. I added http://www.chess.com and http://cssjs.chesscomfiles.com to my exception list. Now the applet loads but runs into an InvocationTargetException.

For me the only way to get it running again was setting the security level from high to medium in the Java Control Panel (which is not really recommended) .

Yes,if you set the security level from high to medium in the Java Control Panel then works.

Of course, rolling back the Java update and installing the previous release is also an option (make sure the automatic Java updates are not enabled).

Okay, nice try.

You cannot use the URL to add the exception because the message says that the applet runs off a different URL as the one specified, so you can forget that.  You guys on staff need to let us know which URL to add as an exception, please.

We already tried the real applet URI.

Yeah, the applet URL doesn't work either.

Iv tried deleting Java compleatly and then downloading latest version but still hit same prob!!!

Avatar of lewisroon

It is not acceptable to have to reduce the security of Java, because that could compromise the computer on other sites. Please let us know if you have a real solution.

Yes, because it's exactly the latest version of Java that introduced the issue (see dicussion above).

Come on, Chess.com, just sign the certificate already.  This is nuts, I can't play the computer without jeopardizing my browser's security.

Avatar of neomariox

Well I just signed up on this site, and I run into the same java problem.

Looks like I'm finding another site that will work then.

Avatar of locke2002

neomariox, you should consider checking back later. I've been looking for somewhere else to play chess vs computer since the Java update and I haven't found a website I like better.

Avatar of PaulTKraly

How much longer before we have a solution?

Avatar of bleemp

I'm having the same problem, and the other websites where I used to play the computer are not working either.

Does anyone have tips on how to roll back to the earlier Java version? I'm not computer savvy.
