Definitely the best workaround.

Another workaround:

Good point, this stuff should be supported (and is less NSA-friendlySmile).

Hi All,

I couldn't read all the 110 posts, but I suppose this is new:

I have done like "Reply #6" in <http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=57457.0&gt> to have chess.com in the exception list, and the security message does not come anymore.

But a "RuntimeException" message pops up, refering to java.lang.reflect.InvocationTargetException.

I don't know what that might mean.

- Bye

Come on please fix this!!!

While I managed to play against the computer by doing the following.

1. Desinstalling older java versions/installing latest version from the oficial page: http://java.com/en/download/index.jsp.

2. Control Panel > Java

 3. Security > Edit site List. Then type http://cssjs.chesscomfiles.com add.

Computer workout isn't working yet!! please fix it's really anoying to pay for a service I'm not getting...

If only it said a more descriptive error message it only says : An error occurred. Please try again. FFS!!

I am NOT able to play the computer either.

Da li je javva ili san sve jedno !!!

Please try the (unofficial) opensource OpenJDK builds I suggested above. "Unofficial" should not scare you: it's very secure, and the adopted standard for all top Linux distributions.

Functionality-wise, it is the same as the Oracle java.

What about on OSX systems?  It was working fine before.

"Chrome does not support Java 7 on Mac OS X. Java 7 runs only on 64-bit browsers and Chrome is a 32-bit browser."

If you download Java 7, you will not be able to run Java content in Chrome on Mac OS X and will need to use a 64-bit browser (such as Safari or Firefox) to run Java content within a browser.

Going to try Safari next.

Update:  Nope, Safari doesn't work either even after updating.

I'm running Linux 64bit and on Firefox the computer workout gives the error message "An error occurred. Please try again.". Same happens with Chrome. I have OpenJDK 7 installed, and generally java works fine elsewhere.

Aquititan you are almost there!

Try simply adding http://www.chess.com/ to your personal list of Java security-cleared files and you should have full access to all of chess.com. [The final / seems to be important: maybe its absence was causing you problems.]

While you are about it try http://www.lokasoft.nl/  and you get access to Lokasoft's software, including Little Chess Partner and a 5-man Nalimov table base.

Hope this helps,

David

PS- for anyone new to this thread and having problems - open Control Panel, switch to "small icons", identify the Jave32 icon, open it by clicking, click on the "security settings" and start adding allowed programs.  [My Windows is in French so it looks slightly different, but the idea is the same].  You may or may not need to lower the security setting to 'Medium' (not recommended) just to get going but once you have fired up the desired program(s) you can re-set the security setting to the recommended medium-high values.

www.chessgames.com members will recognise the advice given in http://www.chessgames.com/perl/viewerswitch

We've all been with out playing chess for a while now.  I typically am not an early adopter so I have shared my patience and did with out.   Now I'm back and still can't find a real solution.  It really does seem like chess.com could simply provide the proper authication to java and we could all move on with our lives.  I can't imagine for those of us who are paying for the service.  I'm fairly tech saavy, but chess.com still doesn't work even though I added numerous sites to the exceptions list.  I've plugged all kinds of variations of the addresses to the list.

Is there a real solution?  Or it's time to move on.

Thanks for any insight!

I'm a little puzzled as to why Chess.com isn't signing the certificate so we can be on our merry way and playing the computer again.

Avatar of stargate1200

I've changed security level in Java Control Panel to Medium and all works! Smile Windows 8.1, Mozilla Firefox.

I'm back!

It won't work. I ensured old Java updates were cleared (removed) Ensure I have latest Version 7 Update 51. Lowered security level to medium. Entered http://www.chess.com/ into exceptions. Applied the changes.

NO JOY.  I'm now using Arena 3.5, but not really enjoying it, because I can't effectively reduce the engine search depth to something I can compete with (Yeah, I know - I'm really rotten at chess!) Anyway - it's better than nothing.

I'm a sucker but persistent - I'll try Chess.com again - sometime in future.

Pete

PS Yes - I've reset to High Security level. Thanks for wondering!

The only answer is that the program isn't secure and Chess.com can't get a certificate for it.
