Linux browsers

Dear chess friends,

For a chess addict as me, this site it's a fantastic source of information and chess pleasure. All those possibilities as e-mail, blog, forum, etc cetera, makes the site even more attractive.

Though as a Linux user I have experience editor problems. Linux browsers as Mozilla, FireFox, Gnome, KDE and Opera do not work properly with the WYSIWYG editor. In other words the Java Script doesn't work with Linux. I can write in pure HTML so it would be fine if I could use a plain text editor.

The 1 million dollar question is:

Is there a possibility to switch from a WYSIWYG editor to a plain one?

Chess greetings, Tony

I did installed some Linux SuSe updates and it improved a lot. Alas, the blog editor is the last one that still must to be fixed. I'm working on it.

Further on, you do have a great site in here!

I'm using Opera on Linux and this editor seems to work fine for me, though I haven't tried to do anything fancy with it yet. Smile

I did solve all problems but the chess diagram! The Java Script simply don't work with Linux based browsers. Anyway that's no reason to start to use windows. No way :)!

Chess diagram?  Just to test, I inserted one in this post. I used Firefox, my distro is Ubuntu. Is it you want to do?

I do use SuSe Linux professional 9.2

By the way I can play games in the chess diagrams which have been posted by others. My problem is not been able to input my own games into the chess diagram. Firefox refers to an JS error. The same error happens if I try to use an emoticon.

erik
can you tell us the error? :)

The version of your distro (Suse Professional 9.2) is relatively old (october 22, 2004), maybe this is problem...

Try to update your Firefox to the last version disponible: Firefox 2.0.0.6 .  Or change your distro, I suggest Ubuntu, the most used distro in the world now.

Good luck ;-)

Thanks. I gonna try that one.

I use Firefox in MEPIS 7, and it works fine (I used to use MEPIS 6.5)

When I was running live CD's to determine which distro I wanted to put on my laptop (formerly Vista), I had some trouble with SUSE, and never really considered using it.  Hope that helps!

Thanks.

At this moment I do work with Linux Ubuntu 64 and WinXP in a multi boot.  My favorite browser is Firefox and it works fine in both platforms.

Chess greetings, Tony
