Login Problems

Hi,

Recently, I have problems to login in chess.com, using the "Connect with Facebook" button... It keeps saying "An error occurred with Chess. Please try again later." Although I have to login directly from Facebook first, and then change page that has the same button, I will be able to login.

Does anyone has the same problem or knows if chess.com is experiencing technical difficulties?

Seems that it comes from my computor... well I didn't had this problem before... I just log in from my laptop no problem...

I've been having this problem, too.  I don't know what is causing it.

Can you either let me know what you're seeing on the screen or post a screenshot to me  kohai@chess.com   please?  I need to know what you're seeing so i can get it fixed.

Recently Facebook updated its method of ensuring secure logins. I am researching how this update may have affected some but not all people (for example, all of our testers could log in fine). It can help me a lot if you could get me any of this information:

1. When did this start being a problem? Please be as specific as you can, since things have changed many times in the past 5 days.
2. We were able to recreate part of this problem a moment ago, then it stopped. Our suspicion is that Facebook is adjusting something on their end. Is it working properly for you now?
3. Are there workarounds that you have found to work? For example, allo_st found that the login button works if he is already logged into Facebook.
4. Do you have "secure browsing" turned on in your Facebook preferences?
5. Does it work for some of the browsers that you use (e.g., Chrome but not Internet Explorer, or at work but not at home)?

One more question: Have you been using the Facebook login for the website for longer than about 4 months?

1)  I have had this problem since yesterday morning.

2)  I am not sure if it is working properly now..I have been logging into facebook first and that's how I am logged in now.

3)  Yesterday if I was logged into facebook first it worked..this morning from about 9am to noon even if I logged into facebook first i would not be able to log on.  The facebook screen said something like 'an error occured with chess.com.  Please try again later'.

4) I have not changed my facebook default, so whatever the default setting is what my 'secure browsing' preference is.

5) At my office I use internet explorer..one of them with a vista operating system and the other with windows xp.  I have the same problem on both computers.

6)  I have been using the facebook log on since June.

I just logged off of facebook..and tried to log onto chess.com using facebook and got the same error message.

3) Here's what I do to connect. On the home page, I click on "Connect from Facebook" button, which I see the usual error message. Once I click on the "Okay" button, it redirects me to Facebook, at which I login there. Then I have to click on the "login" button of the home page, at which I click again on the Connect from Facebook" button. Only then I will be able to log in chess.com. It will not work if I reclick the initial same first button from the home page. Very weird.

5) I have tried once on my laptop (Windows XP) and it got in directly with no problems. However, on my laptop, I have Norton 360, which has the password tracking mode on (not on my desktop computer with Windows Vista). This means that whenever I go on a page that required a password, it will automatically insert it or log in. (Just like tracking cookies).

6) I have been using the facebook log in from the day I registered to this site (In last July).

I have logged out of Facebook and chess.com and tried to relog in from Safari (another of those internet browsers) and it worked just fine...

Was safari the browser showing the issue in the first place?

If yes .. good.

If no, i need you to use the previous one to see if the issue has been fixed or not.  It should be now.  Clear cookies again and refresh the browser.

I cleared cookies and refreshed the browser..still could not log on unless I was already logged onto facebook.  From 8:45 to 9:30 I could not log on even if I was logged onto facebook.  Using internet explorer.

The error message comes from Internet Explorer.

If you can clear cookies again, close the browser, re-open and log in as normal, the issue should now be fixed for you.

I'm still having the same problem.  It seems like I usually can't log in at all via facebook with my one computer that's internet explorer with windows xp; with windows vista and explorer I can log on only if I am logged onto facebook first.

Last night we made some updates that correct a problem that we think is related. Can any of you confirm that this login-through-Facebook problem still exists?
