Loosing 400 points in Tactics Trainer in One Day

Thanks, zealandzen.  I have noticed that the iPad app seems to be more stable.

For what it's worth, I've had the same issue--drop of 400 points in a day, receiving very small amounts for getting it right, big losses for wrong.  I'm trying to look at it as a learning experience, but yeah, it's frustrating.

Me too, very frustrating. I seem to do better in Chess Mentor than TT. : )

I have had several exchanges with the staff regarding this. They have been very helpful and are working on a solution. The issue stems from us maniacs solving all the puzzles in a rating range. The puzzles you are being fed are ones that you have not yet solved and may be well above or well below your current rating. My personal solution was to push the reset button. So I started all over again. Everything is now working just fine.

When you hit reset, does it erase all your old stats?

Yes, all your history and stats are gone. You start from the beginning at a rating in the 1200 range. But your rating can go up very rapidly if you solve puzzles rapidly. For instance, your rating increases more than 150 points for a correct answer to the first puzzle.

What irks me most about TT is when I get the problem completely correct and lose 16 points. I'm going to turn off the clock, focus on calculating the solution correctly and forget about the numbers.

I turned off the clock and my results are much better now that I have time to assess the position before I move.

I am trying to view it the same way Hector_Achilles.  I have fallen from a high of 2577 to about 1600 now, or nearly 1000 points.  Since I incur such a huge penalty for being wrong, I am trying to view as an opportunity to increase my accuracy in solving problems.  Even though the problems are very easy, I have to be nearly perfect in order to increase my rating.

But why turn off the clock?

Yes. It really can be that difficult. If you care about the score, it is often better to make a decent guess than to figure out the entire line. And even if you don't really care for the score, it's quite hard to ignore it altogheter, especially when the timer is visible. It would be nice with an option to hide the score altogher, at least during problem solving.

I wouldn't say it's difficult but very frustrating when in taking time to evaluate a position, I get the problem correct, and then lose points for taking time to take in a position that I would be aware of how it arose in the first place. Not to make excuses, but I find it much harder to 'see' the position clearly on a computer screen than on a board with pieces. TT does not give me time to set up the position. I also find it easier to read a book than use kindle or i-books although I do use them frequently. I'm from the pre-computer era, I only play OTB because that's how I learned.

Do what I did. Focus only on your "plus score". Total solved correctly - total solved incorrectly.

I'm going to focus on the puzzles and ignore the score completely. Thanks for the advice and I'm glad your approach works for you but I'm going to give mine some time first. Cheers, John C.

I was wrong again. If you reset, after a while, you still have the problem of being penalized too much for an incorrect move. Your rating goes into a downward spiral. 

I have the same problem as several of the above, but began with a much lower rating (1450). I feel I'm hopelessly trapped and unable to work myself out of the hole.  I get +1 for getting the problem right and lose up to 37 points for not getting it right.  How can anyone learn and advance like this?  

I have the same problem. I lose at least 16 or more points for a wrong answer and most of the time get only1-6 points or a correct answer. Makes it impossible to progress
