Losing on time with time left

Hey,

I recently played a 5+5 blitz game and I spent quite a lot time on my 8th move since the opening was very chaotic. After having used three minutes of my clock the game just abruptly ended with the remark that my opponent left the game. After a while I realized that it was me who lost the game which is strange since I still had two minutes on my clock. Is there some random rule the you are not allowed to think for three minutes in a blitz game or what on earth does this mean?

No, but if you think for 3 minutes and lose your connection while you are thinking, the server will conclude that you have abandoned the game.

The server has no way to see you sitting there thinking.

Yea that's what I thought too, but I did not have any connection issues. Usually when I have played somewhere where the connection is not so good I always get informed that I am going to lose in so and so many seconds if my connection does not come back. That was not the case this time.

I had the same issue in a blitz tournament. I lost with 5 seconds remaining and my opponent had 6 seconds.

I just lost a game "on time" (a 1-minute bullet game) with 3 seconds remaining. I think 0-minutes would be more correct.

Generally when you see that it means you got disconnected

I had 1.8 Seconds left on the clock, easy move with queen for checkmate, I made the move! instantly, and instead of a win ! I lost on time What kind of rubbish is this ? Clearly this problem has been around for ages and nothing has been done ? Original post from 2019! Way to go! Way to go!

#7 internet problems
#1 if you spend more than half of your time before the 10th move, the game gets disconnected

The server keeps the official clocks and apparently your move didn't make it to the server in time after the allowed lag was compensated for.
