I use FF. It's definitely slower now...especially game explorer. And now ads on the page as well?? when I'm paying for the site? Don't like this one bit
Meebo

why have they added the meebo chat bar? Is it so that players or friends can chat with each other live? The idea is good but most people come on here to play chess not to socialise???? Or maybe i'm wrong?

i try to use FF, but my sister is always using it, so the rest of us have to use IE
just saying safari sucks

Well I don't know. I like receiving notes or messages but on the other side I also like the chat bar as I think it is easier to communicate but nobody actually chat to me. There was one the other day but it was just a short conversation.

By the way I use google chrome.
Before I use IE I don't like it now. It sucks.
Anyways what is FF stands for?

Hey, b4 you know it, the only left room on our screens will be this graph to type, and we'll have to scroll down each different line, due to the advertisement, the different lil extras, and all the lil goodies we have on this "CHESS SITE", huhuhuhu.
you know how to make it all go away, right? :)

I'm in support both of the chat bar and the option to switch it off, provided neither affect the stability of the site.

I think it's rather telling that, when the chat bar was first introduced, only premium members had the option to get rid of it altogether (I know it's been changed now).
Did they think that getting rid of it was another reason for people to pay for membership ?

Please get rid of Meebo!
Chess.com is quickly becoming a nag-ware service model with annoying pop-up advertisements that you can not get rid of. One of the reasons why I'm able to recommend the site is the relatively low degree of invasive ads within the interface. That changed with the introduction of Meebo at Chess.com.
If Meebo will not provide the chat service without an option for individual users to disable it and opt-out... then WE DON'T NEED IT!

Hey, I just found the newly added "Never Show" option on the Privacy page!
I'm happy... forget I said anything!

I am using Firefox now and have Netscape as a backup.
I am having a problem that started last night. After making a move in a game,
the screen would go blank instead of going to the next game.
I have the chat bar as never show and don't see the Meebo chat anywhere, but the problem still persits. Waiting for an update........

'IdrinkJack'-
I have had the same intermittent problem, but I have meebo disabled so I wouldn't think that meebo was the cause.

I think that rather than an incentive to pay for membership, it's a means by which additional revenue can be generated from the base of non-premium members. Presumably Meebo pays chess.com some nominal fee for the adds served up on the back of chess.com's popularity. Not unlike the other adds on this site, which are also not something that Premium members have to contend with, they are simply an additional source of revenue. For everything that non-paying members get here for free I think it's perfectly fair -- in fact, I think it's a bargain -- that the only inconvenience is that they have to deal with advertisements.
You don't hear complaints about this same model when implemented in the telecommunications industry -- radio in particular is a near perfect analogue. If anything I'd expect this type of grievance to be applied to cable television advertisements, or worse, advertisements at the beginning of movies at the theatre and on DVDs all of which you have paid for.
Take it off cos its a nusence and this site has already enough annoying problems already. I think its a good idea to get the other problems sorted then maybe add this later.
if you dont like it and you think it has "enough annoying problems", go and play somewhere else..
