“Network connection was lost”

When I do a puzzle, it frequently tells me “the network connection was lost”. It doesn’t matter if I’m on Wifi or not, it does it about half of the times I complete a puzzle. It’s very frustrating to complete a puzzle correctly and not receive my points because “the network connection was lost”. My app is fully updated and I pay for a gold membership. This should not be happening when I pay for the app.

Also, this has been happening for weeks.

Does anyone monitor this board?

Did you switch tabs? You might have been disconnected. Maybe also try refreshing. Also there is a feature to adjust your connection: https://support.chess.com/article/1206-what-does-it-mean-to-abort-a-game-how-do-i-do-it.

Chess.com support is garbage. No one responds.

Are you saying you opened a ticket and didn't get a response?

I’ve emailed and started multiple threads here and have received no response from support. I keep having to resend replies to this thread because if I take too long to type the response, it gives me a “network connection was lost” message.

If you get a similar error when posting, it really sounds like your device or local network is at issue. If you are on a mobile device and have both a wifi and cellular data connection active, try turning off one of them. It possible your device is trying to switch connections periodically and that could be causing network resets.

Now it tells me “cannot parse response.”

What is your iOS app version? There was a recent update, so if you're not on that one, you might try that

I also experience this. Completed two puzzles just now and had “network connection was lost” after both of them. Obviously nothing is wrong with my cellular data as I’m using it to write this message and have a strong 4G signal on iOS 16.4.1. My Chess app was updated only a few days ago.

Good developers would be able to maintain stable services even with a patchy connection. Alas, I’ve learned to set expectations low with chess.com.

This is driving me nuts, why can the app not store state and submit to the servers when it has connectivity again?

I have the same problem. It happens over stable wifi and nobile network. Been happening for months. Especially when doing puzzles.

Canceled my subscription, network connection lost is the biggest reason. My internet is solid, yet I lose games due to getting disconnected. Get your shit together chess.com and I will consider renewing. Until then, this platform isn’t worth the headache

Same problem here. Correctly solved puzzles always lost connection. Minuses comes fine!

Avatar of GerryGrant

Yep, same here. Solved one’s will be disregarded after the error message „network connection lost“, wrong ones will count as minus points. Extremely frustrating and the track record is completely spoiled.

I have this issue also and its consistent across both stable WIFI and 5g connection on my iphone. Seems like the problem has been around for ages without resolution - very off putting and wont be renewing my subscription at this rate.
