Click on My Home in the top right. When you get to My Home, click on Online Chess in the control panel (top right again). Under Play Chess (top right again) click on Start New Game.
Or from My Home you can click on Tournaments and join a tournament. But you need to finish a few games first before you can join most tournaments.
...and before you click on Start New Game, set the rating parameters of your prospective opponent.
Thank you so much. Just how do the ratings work. For instance do you start at zero and work up and how many points do you score per game
Point begin at 1200. The number of points gained/lost from a game depend upon the ratings of your opponent. There is an exponential chance of winning against someone rated higher than you. I think at 300 point difference, you're something like 85% chance of losing the game. At 200 point difference, a 75% chance of losing, and at 100 point diference a 63% chance of losing.
Players rated similarly to you, you have about a 50% chance of losing.
