Odd characters displaying throughout website??

A little while back, I started seeing weird ASCII characters popping up instead of icons or graphics when Chess.com attached game play-throughs to their articles. I didn't think anything of it at first...it didn't bother me.

Now with the new site, these weird ASCII characters are everywhere, making it much more difficult to understand and navigate the site. I am attaching a screenshot. See at the top: "f  C (   0 y q" etc, for example.

Why is this happening? Is this a browser setting? It makes it VERY tedious to do anything on the website.

Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

If you're seeing something like is showing in the first post it means your browser isn't loading the site defined fonts.

Sometimes that can happen if the page fails to fully load (very slow or lagging connection). It can happen die to a browser cache issue. It can also happen if your browser settings override the fonts or a plug-in/extension does.

I use Firefox, had to go into settings and revert back to default fonts for websites instead of using custom fonts
