*facepalm*
ChessTV is a family show. Chessbrahs were not shown there. No problem. Get over it!

Chessbrah was not the official stream but links were provided to all the streams of the participants. Chess.com should have told the participants not to cause major offense as there may have been children watching this event. If they did inform the participants, then it's the fault of the participant, if they didn't, it's the fault of chess.com for not putting a disclaimer and warning us to view at our own risk. This way parents can safeguard their children from mature content.
Whether its a family show or not, there is no need for that kind of language. Why do people think we have to stoop to the lowest common denominator to be entertained?
Just another reason not to pay for a membership.
Incredibly disappointed in chess.com that they feel they have to do this to get more members. The beavis and butt-head mentality prevails again.
Osehris,
As I told you during the stream, the user you are accusing of spamming other channels was not a mod at any point.
@diakonia -- we don't control people's personal streams. I'm not sure why you think we do. This was not Chess.com/TV's stream. I think you are confused.
And if we set up rules of what to allow and what not to, then we would be held over the fire even more for censoring people's private channels.
The choice was pretty clear -- there were 25 streamers and if you don't like one channel, don't go there. You can be sure that the Chess.com/TV channel is not like this. I think over the 7 years we've been doing broadcasts people know this.
As for assistance, I think a GM knows not to take advice from the chat. Also, the chat is delayed by at least 5 seconds, maybe as much as 10-15, so that likely wouldn't help anyway. In addition, Robin only scored 4.0/7 and didn't win a prize, so the evidence is flimsy that he benefitted at all. Remember that he hung mate in two versus Greg Shahade. If you really want to, look at his eyes, they weren't shifting to read text. He was more focused than maybe any other player!
Did you watch Hammer's great stream which was funny and educational? How about Lenderman, who practically gave a free 90 minute lesson, courtesy of the event? I suggest you focus on those two next time if you don't want to watch Danny at Chess.com/TV.
The "He made offensive jokes of pedophilia!!" stuff makes me take the allegations of cheating a lot less seriously...how do people get through life when they get offended over such pointless things? There are so many real problems and injustices in the world (heck, so many injustices in chess itself!), and you choose this to get upset over?
No one ("young viewers" included) has a right to "not be offended;" the only way to gurantee that is to turn off your internet and lock yourself in your room all day.
Also, the chat is delayed by at least 5 seconds, maybe as much as 10-15.
Can confirm. Eric answered some questions with 10-sec delay (chat vs. stream).
A bit shocked by some of the responses in this thread. Paedophilia is no laughing matter, I doubt any of you would joke about it in the real world, but when it's online it seems to be acceptable for some. Frankly you should be ashamed of yourselves, and you definitelty shouldn't be allowed anywhere near children.
I was disappointed by Mike's post above, but he just told me via PM that they will put a note in future such events, warning that some streams may contain such extremely offensive material.
What a douchebag this guy is.... I can understand your point of view but as the MOD pointed out chesstv was not at fault here, and if you have any complaints they should be directed to the streamers and you have the right not to watch them if you feel offended by them. Get a life man. life is too fing short to get annoyed by petty things like this.
Frankly you should be ashamed of yourselves, and you definitelty shouldn't be allowed anywhere near children.
Who the hell wants to get near you anyway...
ok... if you're going to take some things out of context i'm going to take the VOD down. A lot of those jokes come from questions/comments in the chat that regular viewers would understand and I am all about audience interaction. I advertise my channel as 'chess entertainment with uncensored commentary' so most people get the point.
Not planning on saying much more on the matter since it is my own channel and twitch is all about having fun and broadcasting what you want.
chesstv was not at fault here,
They did organize the event and are in that way partially responsible for the content of the streamers taking part in the event.
on the whole the chessbrah stream is very positive and no analysis suggestions were made verbally and in the chat. ok Eric made one bad joke in 8 hours of streaming. and yes, Eric probably needs to work on keeping his emotional cool and language proper if he is to stream on the chess.com stream. but it's well understood that chessbrah is more suitable to a more adult audience and i don't find anything that they do inappropriate; they are a very tolerant and well-meaning community, unlike the OP who wants to take a negative perspective. but i find him and the chessbrahs to be very generous in their promotion of chess, to take time to play significantly weaker players and explain their moves and by many accounts to be very pleasant people in what they say and more so by their actions in public. and his lifestyle choices is his business as he's not hurting other people, rather the contrary.
Dear Mike,
I didn't watch all of Chessbrah's stream; as I only found out about it after some of the moderators from the Chessbrah stream, began spamming links to their stream in the ChessExplained stream chat (I object to this morally). Please speak to ChessExplained to confirm this if my words are not enough. It also happened in Greg Shahade's chatroom after the game in which Greg delivered mate to Chessbrah.
I didn't watch the stream for long but in the time I did, I found evidence of moves being suggested by a person off-screen, who then comes on-screen at the end of the game, and Robin Van Kampen acknowledges that moves were being suggested to him.
I would also like to add that a lot of the content in their stream I found to be extremely offensive and inappropriate for younger viewers. There were many instances of swear words and also descriptions of sexual activity. In the past when I was more active on chess.com, chess.com/tv events were represented as a "family show". Some of the language used by GM Eric Hansen goes well beyond what someone would class as a joke, in particular references to sexual activity with a 14 year old girl. I am from the UK, so I don't know whether this kind of thing is acceptable in America, but I know in Europe it is extremely offensive, and would be seen as making a joke of paedophilia.
I will provide the time stamps to the complaints I mentioned above below:
This is a direct link to their stream of the event: http://www.twitch.tv/chessbrah/v/16340221
58:45 to 59:50 Eric Hansen asks Robin Van Kampen whether he would prefer to give Nakamura a handjob or have sexual intercourse with a 200lb woman. - I found this offensive and inappropriate for younger viewers.
01:06:11 to 01:06:18 Eric Hansen says he will shove his finger up Robin Van Kampen's ass. - Again offensive and inappropriate for younger viewers.
01:12:18 to 01:12:45 Hansen tells the person off-screen suggesting moves to stop, he then goes on to make a distasteful joke about 14 year old girls in a sexual context. – I don’t think Eric Hansen was being serious but it was still very offensive.
01:15:37 to 01:15:60 - Robin Van Kampen acknowledges tips that were suggested by the man sitting on the chair. – Evidence of cheating.
I didn't bother reviewing their entire stream of the event as I think the above should be more than sufficient. I hope you will take my complaint seriously and review the evidence provided.
As I mentioned in the comments of the thread, I enjoyed the event itself and found the format innovative. I hope that for future events like these you will make sure streamers will not say things that may cause such offense. Failing that, please give us some warning that streamers may say such things.
Best regards,
Osehris
