Opening Explorer

Opening Explorer has vanished from my games. Instead of the name of the opening, I'm just seeing the word "standard" on every game. What changed?

Yeah, I've just noticed that too. First time I've noticed it happening. Hopefully it is just a bug that will get sorted out soon...

It may be a bug but in Live it probably should be hidden. I know a number of suggestions have been made in the forum for it to be hidden; some opening names give hints that could influence the game.

It isn't visible in daily chess either or in completed games

This is Daily chess, not Live.

It constitutes the removal of the most enjoyable and educational aspect of playing correspondence chess games.  It also removes the useful aid of being able to explore lines OTB for ones own clarity, which is a truly worthwhile feature to use beyond the supported background data.  If it is a permanent change then it certainly puts a huge question mark over my future in Chess.com

I have also messaged Chess.com concerning this change, and they appeared not to understand the issue at all .  Their 'answer' failed to address or comprehend my question.

When you copy a position from a daily chess game that is still in progress, you get a warning that essentially tells you not to check explorer until the game is done. Does that mean that there has been a rule change for daily chess games? Up until now, daily chess followed correspondence chess rules, which allow you to consult opening books and databases. If chess.com really did make such a change, they need to make an announcement and inform everybody of the change. If they didn't change the rules, then I don't understand why they would make it harder to access explorer. It will put players who don't have access to a database at a disadvantage. 

I have just lost Explorer on my Laptop thought it is still on my Smart Phone. Does any one know how to get it back ?

Explorer has also gone from my Smart Phone now.

So... obviously very few people care if the greatest resource for enhancing their correspondence chess is taken away from them!  I am very disappointed. 

I also raised a bug report - I can't believe this was intentional.

The reply I received from chess.com didn’t seem to grasp what is happening here at all.  However if so few of us seem to care then perhaps Chess.com don’t even have to take us seriously?  My greatest pleasure has been correspondence chess, but it looks like the future will see me returning to live chess...

Did they get back to you after you filed a bug report - or did you email them directly?

This is such a fundamental part of the Daily chess game - it must be a bug. Also, if it was intentional - why would they leave the work Standard there? 

That's exactly what I think! The explorer is a great thing for learning openings. I also wonder where and why it has gone!

During the game - click Help in the bottom left...
