I was just on live chess and pieces wouldn't move for me on about 4 of my squares. Hard to play like that! :)

Yep. Yesterday when I played Armenian Bishop I couldn't play e5. Another fellow suggested I log off and try to get back to the game in time. I failed at that. :) Anything on c,d,and e4 wouldn't budge during a few games.

I did it again and think I figured out what I did to cause it. I got all excited in a 5min game, clicked beside the piece I intended to move, and dragged my mouse. This turned the board blue and any piece I had dragged my mouse over was left immobile for the remainder of the game.
Ah, yes. I've had that happen from time to time. A very annoying site specific glitch.
The workaround to undo that appears to be to 'click' an unrelated area which will often reverse that 'blue' overcast phenomena.

for me it's while playing against the computer. I can make several moves, playing the Basic game (before beginner), and then when I click and drag, it bounces back into its original spot. I know I don't know the game very well yet, but I tested it with very easy basic moves. Still happens. I have latest firefox and Java.
the blue thing isnt a glitch, it is you double clicking... so you select everything, and yes, you just need to click somewhere else to deselect everything

That didn't work in this case Jose. The blue was gone and some squares still weren't usable.
Are you observing another game when the problem happens in yours?
and are you making premoves in the opening?
