Players abusing "vacation"

Hi everyone, Is anyone else having players leaving their game on vacation for over a month while they continue playing other games? (blitz/rapid, etc.) I've reported a player (FredwoodTree) for stalling several times. Another player facing them is having the same issue with him leaving their day games on vacation. They reported him too. But nothing is getting done about it. Here's my small suggestion for chess.com. Can the vacation feature simply allow a week or two of vacation time tops? and then they have to wait for more time to accrue? I mean, why would anyone need to use vacation time for a game that allows you to wait several days before making a move anyway? I think it's unnecessary and excessive. This player's "vacation" is longer than any real vacation I've ever had. -Dale

If a player is not using vacation to prolong hopelessly lost games, then they are allowed to use it, and if are premium, may be getting automatically placed on vacation when low on time in one or more games. 

 

When on vacation on Daily games, players are allowed to otherwise use the site for other things, including live games.

Vacation is an obnoxious feature practically designed to give paying members an unsportsman-like advantage that has basically nothing to do with actually being on a vacation. I wish they had the option to not be matched with premium members in daily games because I would prefer that.

 

Basic members have vacation as well, just not as much and no auto-timeout protection.

Its just stupid that people can go on "vacation" while continuing to use the site to play live games. What's the point of this feature, really? It's annoying. Make a freakin' move. It's a curse to get stuck in a daily game with someone on vacation. At least give the non-vacation player the option to simply abort the game?

It's ok to go on vacation and play other peeps.  Some people, like myself, might play some blitz, but want to wait to tackle a difficult position in a correspondence game. 

However, if someone has a large amount of wins due to time outs, thanks to vacations, you should report them for stalling and let chess.com decide if they are. I have personally reported people and had their vacation rights removed.

I have never understood why people complain about the pace of daily games because it is so easy to fix: of your aren't happy with the amount of daily game action you have, then add more games.

I don't really care how long any particular game lasts. I pace my games so on average I have 3-4 moves to make per day.

Just manage the number of games you have to give yourself the workload you want.

Because they can come off of vacation at any moment and then you have more games than you wanted. Your point actually reinforces mine: people on vacation make it harder to manage and predict how much "work" you are taking on.

That would only make sense if all your opponents were colluding to come off vacation at the same time.

I am a daily player too.... Why don't I have this problem? I don't even notice if someone is on vacation.

I just do the games as they come up. The pace is pretty constant.

If it really bothered you then play games with longer limits, like 7 days instead of 3, and carry more games at the same time to keep the workload up.

Vacation feature should be deleted, it's being abused! It's really bothering and annoying!

Vacation time should not be allowed when in middle of a daily game it is not fair on opponent who is waiting for the player to take their turn and it is irritating waiting 16 days for the game to continue

I never take daily chess seriously. It lacks the rhythm and tension of an actual chess game. I love the tension in an over the board game, especially while finishing my favorite Taylor playlist.

I have an opponent who is abusing vacation badly. She paused my daily game several days ago. I looked at her profile because I was curious how many people she was playing, and if she was losing those games.

Turns out she appears to have bitten off more than she could chew, playing 30 daily games. At the same time she’s playing blitz and bullet, with a streak of bullet wins today! And a new high score at it too.

I consider this abuse. Just wondering when to report her since I would rather play the game, but not after weeks of not making a move. If she’s so precious, so am I! Holding back on naming her for the moment. This is the first time this has happened. I just started playing real people after over a year of just bots and coaches (the bot kind).

Any feedback would be appreciated.
