Problems with Linux

I was conversing with member, Dutchgalego, who uses the Linux operating system. He said he can't use many features using java (javascript?) because of some incompatibility issue. He can't create hypertext nor even post on someone's blog (two examples that he gave me). It seems that Linux is a popular enough system, and that the designers here are brilliant enough, that this shouldn't really be an issue, but I'm really ignorant in this area and may not understand the complexities.

Is there anything that can be done to help our desperate Hollander?

As far as I know Linux is not a single distributive. It consists of nearly a hundred different ones, which of course differ in many ways. I've already tried 3 of them:Ubuntu, Mandriva, Knoppix. Well, the ides is simple - if you have problems with any Linux distributive, then try another one. They are popular not because they are better than Windows, but because most of them are free.

I'm with Ubuntu / Linux here, NONE of this problems happens here... All features of this site works perfectly with Linux.

It'll be down to the browser, not Linux itself. The site works fine for me except for one minor thing but I'm using Opera and that is probably to blame.

yeah. it's a browser issue. he needs to be using the right browser. if he's techie enough to be using linux, he should be techie enough to figure it out :) maybe he should message oruam

After 3 months...  I'm using Linux (Ubuntu 7.10) and I have no problems.  The OS, whatever it is should be updated; the browser was not mentioned, so I'm recommending Firefox.  Erik is right five years ago (that only techies use Linux): modern Linuxes are very much at par with the famous Windows, if not better...  Wink

Chewi is right-it's the browser, and not Linux itself.

With Linux, there are many browsers to choose from, but most of them have Firefox as their standard.   This one works fine with my Linux distro, which is MEPIS 7 (their newest).

Linux is changing all the time, and getting easier for Newbies like myself to use.
