question about pausing

I'm trying to better understand the pause/vacation on the daily chess play. There's a player who has had our game paused for over a week. Can he keep the game paused indefinitely? What are my options?

It looks like that particular person had their account closed for cheating. You get vacation days accumulated each month. When you run out, you'll have to play or lose by timing out.

So in that case, even though the person's account has been closed for cheating, the system automatically starts using the vacation time they've accrued. They will eventually run out and you will win the game on time - you should be able to tell how long this will take when you open up the game and it says that they are on vacation and have x days / hours remaining.

Well that brings up another question. How does one cheat on a program run by a computer? Aren't we all playing by the same rules??

I'm sorry. I didn't mean to 'ask how' I merely meant I'm surprised to hear that literal cheating is occurring. Programming error or internet connection is one thing I could understand. The rest is above me. Thanks for the help though.
