The thing is, Karl, you've decided this is a cut-and-dry issue, and because you're obsessed with making everything about you, this is your cue to wade in with the definitive statements about what is happening in this topic. But, this entire discussion is far from being obvious, as the extensive literature on word usage, jokes, slang terms, offensive terms, even community and belonging, and then etc etc, should attest to. But you just have to jump in and whine about yourself, rather than addressing the topic.

Reb, that's why I try to avoid conversation with people whenever possible, because everything these days is offensive to someone somewhere in some kind of group. I don't trust people and I never have, and probably never will LOL

Yeah ... not to open Pandora's box again, but how many forums have been dedicated to the true meaning behind "good game"? And how many of the posters found even that to be offensive?

But as a previous post pointed out (and pardon the alliteration), there is a distinction between using the word as the focus of the discussion and using it to insult someone. Without such a distinction, how could one even convey what it was that was said?

All the blacks I know take that word as an insult no matter what the context. And I have known a ton of black people in my time. BTW, they also hate being referred to as African-Americans. They just want to be called Americans! Or people! We really need to get rid of all the racial labels if we are truly concerned about getting rid of racism.
Would this mean I would never again be called honkey, white trash, redneck, hillbilly, inbred, gringo , etc ?
