I'm really pissed off - the game clearly said unrated which isn't meant to mean any points. My friend was a beginner at 1200 points, hadn't played a game and had four hours left and hadn't made a move so I resigned cause he wasn't playing and then he got awarded 69 points and I lost those points in a flipping UNRATED game. WTH!
Rated/Unrated Games

I believe you're confusing unrated game with unrated player. Anyone can play either a rated or unrated game but only a newcomer to chess.com can be unrated. If you want to check go to the game in your archive and click on Details. That will tell you if it was rated or unrated. If it really does show as an unrated game, then you need to file a ticket with the Games dept.

yeah blonde moment lol, was about to delete as I realised my mistake. Thank you :) lol (embarrassed)

Don't be embarassed; it's a confusing site dedicated to a confusing game. You should see the angry posts about "en passant" !

thanks for being kind. Yeah it is a confusing site sometimes. I still can't get my head around the scoring. I've read what they have, but can't make a whole lot of sense about it. I realise it depends on your score, their score etc, but I was curious about how much you lose for resigning if it you are losing by like 15 plus points etc, when you time out all that stuff but can't work it out definitively.

How you lose makes no difference in the scoring. The site uses the Glicko system for scoring. Basically it's not just the difference between the players ratings, but also how reliable those ratings are that determines how many points you win or lose. You could google or do a forum search for "Glicko RD" if you're interested in the details. When you first join your rating can go up or down like a gymnast on a trampoline; after a hundred or so games it's more like an old man in a hammock.
Hi,
I'm trying to play a friend in a rated game, I send the request but when I look at their name it comes up next to it as unrated. Does this mean the game is unrated or that they are unrated?
Thank you.
