Is the grass growing where you live? Go mow someone's lawn. Is fall coming? Go rake leaves. Bake cookies and sell them. Get a group of chess players together and have a car wash to fund your club with membership money and other cool stuff. Sell your cookies and lemonade at the car wash. Etc.
Winter? Shovel snow.
Paint. Fix bicycles. Give chess lessons for money. Etc etc etc.
All can't do such jobs, most of them are young students.
I was never NOT earning money when I was a student.
Circumstances can't be the same for everyone.
You can't say you spend 18 hours a day on chess.com but have no time to make money bro.
I do.
You want tactics and puzzles? Lucas chess free download. You want video lessons? youtube.com.
Not everyone can afford a membership, but it is amazing how much stuff you can get for free. And it is no surprise that people with money get more stuff than people without. That's the way the world works.

Doesn't sound meaningful.
Chess.com is running a business. It costs money to operate servers. It costs money to pay developers, IT staff, support staff, cheater detectors, etc. It costs money to run events like Titled Tuesday and the Pro Chess League - and not just the prize money, there's a lot of admin work involved.
There are two ways to bring money in:
1. Advertising
2. Premium memberships
Advertising is not significant. If you do a little searching around online, you really need to be huge (like facebook or google) to make a lot of money off advertising. It's enough to be worth keeping it around, but it's not making Erik rich.
That leaves premium memberships as the main source of income.
Why do people buy premium memberships? In some cases because they like the site and want to support it, but in most cases because they want something that is only available to premium members. If chess.com starts giving more of that away to free members, fewer people will buy premium memberships, and it will be harder to operate chess.com as a profitable business. That might mean less money for events like the Pro Chess League or the Speed Chess Championship. Or it might mean less money to pay developers to add new features. Or it might mean less money for cheater detection, or for admin staff, etc.
There are already a ton of features available to free members. You can do 5 tactics per day. You can read lots of articles. You can play as many games as you want. You can join clubs and play vote chess and team matches. You can post in the forums.
And the cheapest level of premium membership doesn't cost very much: https://www.chess.com/membership?c=icon
Just saying, Rs. 175 isn't THAT much to pay though, if you want a premium membership.
Yeah but not for all...

I know that......
Either you can buy 175 chewing gums or you can buy a membership
