RUDE & ARROGANT

We are representing two different teams in  2 matches at Online chess. The theme of the match is "Every pawn is a potential Queen"-JAMES Mason. The games started on Jan 29th 2012 with 18 players per team. I represent Sacred Pawn Legion, whilst bucsar represent Team Romania.

The result of the 1st game was that I resigned before 30 moves. This happened during the 2nd game. We both have 2 rooks each and he also have 6 pawns, whilst I only have 4 pawns. He started by asking me to resign. When I refused, he started calling me, -"sucker". I replied that he should not be rude and arrogant as this is just a game, and being 67 yrs old, I do not have to take these remarks from him. He then called me an idiot. This 2nd game is still on-going.

Almost immediately, I reported this incident to my super admin at Sacred Pawn Legion. I am still waiting for his reply.

I am greatly disturbed by this type of behaviour.I still have about 85 on-going games at Online chess. I am a member for the past 2 years, and had so far played about 4,500 games at Live Chess, and about 600 games at Online chess. This is the first time that I have encounter such behaviour . Do I have to accept and condone such bad mannerism ?

This is the only surprising thing about your post.

It's the Internet, comes with the territory.

Undoubtedly that person is in the wrong. However you need to have some thicker skin. Chess admins can't police every word and if it is truly offensive to you, just simply block the individual who is harassing you.

StevenBailey13

You can never stop people on the internet from being rude- it's impossible, but you shouldn't just accept it - most of those idiots who make stupid comments are on youtube and we don't want it here!

goldwater

It is up to administrators to warn, and if need be expel rude people from the site.  If a player plays in good faith and causes no trouble and is polite, the problem is not that he needs thicker skin.  The problem is the rude player's attitude.  I've had the pleasure to play several times against fhwee and through our chats I've come to consider him a gentleman.  The administrators have to do their job and to do it they need feedback from members like fhwee.  Your skin is just fine, my friend.  You've done your part, it's time for Chess.com to do their job and let you know the action they've taken.

I also have played fwee and found him most friendly and enjoyable to chat with.  Anonymity can bring out the worst in people.  Just be glad Frank that you aren't him.  I'd block him from all future contacts and games.  Does anyone know what happens when you block someone like this jerk then join a match and are teamed up with him again ?   Remember Frank  -  Geezers Rule !!!!!!!!!!!    Cool

Fhwee, you just spoke about something I wanted to speak about. I think that chess is a noble game and that we have to respect ourselves and the others. On the board we are not "enemies" but we are like two army chiefs giving orders to their troops and during the battle the soldiers may be ignoble and vulgar, but not the chiefs! I think things like "sucker"/"lol u're owned"/"wtf youre a newbie" etc...have to be banned from chess language. Forunately, we can disable chat while playing a game here, that's not the case for other sites.

TheGrobe

"Worlds are colliding Jerry.  Worlds are colliding!"

Bubatz

Normally, simply disabling chat effectively deals with the problem. After the game is done, you can block the guy and never will have to play him again. However, I think I would most definitely report rude behaviour to chess.com if encountered during team matches, especially in the national team leagues. These guys are a disgrace for their country's team and should be removed.

No you don't.

Those who say "it's the internet" and other such platitudes are just copping out.

Maintain your own standards and adhere to them.Dumbing down was never the answer...

OldHastonian

There you go, right on cue.

I am rude and arrogant and with good reason. I am a superior individual in every way. I won't make myself boorish by enumerating details. You wouldn't understand anyway. My only reason for posting a comment is to say that Mr. "bucsar" doesn't belong in the company of the truly arrogant if the level of his invective only rises to the pedestrian term "sucker." Good day, sir!

Right on target.

don't make the mistake of thinking we give a crap about your problems...

helltank

To quote Scott Adams:"On the internet, everyone is a bully."

Just throw in an insult about his immediate family members and move on.

Clever. There's a chance that you may belong in the company of the truly arrogant.

browni3141

I wouldn't even respond to him. I think that's what they want you to do. There trying to disturb you, and maybe throw you off your game. Just keep a poker face and block them after the game. If you feel like retaliating, just beat him with your moves, not your words.

Even if two people are enemies, you can still show each other mutual humane respect, even if your superiors have commanded you to kill each other.

SPARTANEMESIS

True, however if you have a reason (hypothetically of course) to kill someone you may also have a reason to not respect them.  Funny how some of these guys think they're superheroes only when sitting in front of their computers.  I think there may be a way to get a little entertainment out of these rude and arrogant individuals; it's not for everyone though.
