If  his ooponent is rude and calls him bad names during a game in progress?

I usually tell him that he might be a good chess player (if he is) but he is not a nice person - and block him after the game.

For some things, disabling chat or blocking the member, and then ignoring it and moving on, may be best.  Otherwise, you could report it.  Generally you should consider reporting it if you think the person may pose a threat to the greater chess.com community: so if it is unprovoked, unusually inappropriate, or you suspect they may do it often.   If it is an individual dispute or minor affront there is likely no need.

If you've got a copy/paste of the text saved or a screenshot, you could report by creating a support ticket: http://support.chess.com/index.php?_m=tickets&_a=submit

If it's an e-chess game, you only need include the game link.  If it's in a message, include the message link.  If it's a wall note, make mention of this.  The response to the ticket will depend on the extent of the abuse.

How do you block someone ?

Scroll to the bottom here and add their name http://www.chess.com/home/privacy.html

it's best to ignore them. it's just not worth it.

Disable the chat, that will shut them up.  Then, do your best to kick their ass in the game, lol.  But, Mirage is right, if it's somebody who is clearly out to disturb everybody, it's probably best to report them.

What do you want me to say, I like Americans?!!!! No. It's not going to happen...EVER! So, if you want to wave those ridiculous stars and stripes, get ready for someone pissed off!

Oh. You're not AmericanEmbarassed

Report abusive opponents to the the staff. However, when you're in the middle of a game and you need to finish the game, ignore them. If you cannot disable chat, take a sticky note (two inch by two inch yellow paper with an adhesive strip on backside) and simply place it over the chat window (just kidding). Switch the window over to "moves" and leave it there. Bottom line: Ignore them and report them. DO NOT GET ABUSIVE WITH THEM or you'll both end up in trouble.

I am totally amazed that the players on yahoo have better manners than players here or on the ICC. One of the mentors once told me. " what do you expect, they are chess players.?"

I am certainly amazed by the first statement (and doubt it very much)...and much amused by (and in sad agreement with) the second.

I found the players on yahoo.com to be much ruder than the players on chess.com. Don't know about ICC.

Why don't you change your flag like ivandh does? Maybe you'd be happier.

I would be a lot happier if Americans were pissed off enough to start a revolutionLaughing

They already did if I remember correctly.

And they were pissed too, in the British sense (at least, that was true for the Boston Tea Party).

You could get that "Don't tread on me" flag that the Tea Party people like so much. Maybe you'd be interested in helping them "take their country back" from our black president. If your looking for some revolution action, that's about all we got going on right now. Not my cup of tea, however.

@tonydal, doesn't pissed mean drunk in England?

The answer is clearly to repeal the act of independence and make you a colony again Laughing

Too fat and happy for any heavy lifting.

A group of my fellow English expat drunkard friends like to take one of those boat tours on the 4th of July, get suitably pissed (in the English sense) and throw PG Tips teabags in the Hudson . All very childish but quite amusing
