Rules for games

Where are the rules for the timed games? And I don't mean rules of chess. I mean the rules for how one wins or loses in a 3 or 5-minute timed game. For example, I have lost many games for poor playing, but sometimes, even after capturing several of an opponent's pieces, and clearly "being ahead", the game ends and I'm told for "timed out".  Where are the rules for the timed games?

It's not that complicated. You run out of time, you lose.*
