should I resign all of my games?

I have had to go into vacation for the second time.

Why?

Because the first time my internet vanished and then it vanished again. Both times it has been one cause: my ISP has totally and completely screwed me. I have internet that is so slow that it takes 20 minutes for chess.com to load. In such circumstances I cannot, clearly, play even CC games here. Not because I don't want to. But because my ISP has left me in the lurch; my theory is that they have given my account to a gamer who makes them more cash. All complaints to them have got nowhere; they don't want to know me.

I cannot change ISPs straight away. It's not that simple. I have to find one, find a new plan, get the new plan put in etc etc.

So my point is that I can see no point at this rate when I will be able to play on this site, for reasons that are entirely beyond my control.

Thus should I resign all of my games? I don't want to. But maybe I will have to.

Oh good on you. I have made enough blunders in my correspondence games to deal with that nonsense. Shut your mouth.

This is a serious thread OP. It is not an ironic joke.

Go on vacation, switch provider and hope the new broadband is installed in time

gaereagdag

It is complex. I have normal internet from 2 am to 8 am and then each day it is unuseable from then on.

THe ISP is iinet. They are the absolute worst.

I also need a different internet forum for discussing this. Whirlpool has censored my threads; they are an advertisement for ISPs and don't want to know about your issues. So is there any other forum where I can discuss this situation and not be censored?

gaereagdag

OK. I am putting on record here that if I resign them all it's not for funny business reasons; it's becausemy internet is garbage.

...I can't really see your no point.

OP means original poster. In other words, yourself.

I don't understand your story. It is for me hard to imagine that people want you to have a bad time. I also don't understand the story of Whirlpool. Why are people blocking you or interested in blocking you? Why is that a restriction? The internet is so huge.

It could be that your computer has been compromised, but I guess that you are using some type of linux and not other operating systems, that are more prone for take overs.

My mother had once a similar problem with a slow internet, not caused by her computer. Sometimes it was there, other times it was not, hence it had to be the provider. Uh, no, it was the cable to the computer that was replaced accidently and now lying to close to a heating radiator (which was not always used).

Anyhow, success solving your problems.

Go to star bucks

Or your local public library.

I had trouble with my Internet and it turned out the cat chewed my Ethernet cable. But you couldn't see it unless you really looked.

If your Internet is fine in the wee hours then its not the provider it's the narrow bandwidth in your neighborhood. Too many blokes getting their porn on at the same time. Wifi won't help in that case. Go to the library and don't start any new games.

skakmadurinn

Can't you put your games on vacation?!

Go to one of your cc games.. settings.. vacation..

AnastasiaStyles

He did address that in the first line of his post, Skakmaðurinn ;)

Two main things to consider before deciding what to do with your games;

1. How long do you estimate having internet issues?

2. If its a couple of weeks, your opponents may not mind waiting, if its going to be 4+ weeks - while it is your choice to use vacation time wisely, how would you feel if your opponent had this issue instead of you? Would you mind waiting?

Is the possibility of accessing a different computer completely ruled out?

Why don't you go to hot spot areas? To a fast food resto, a hotel lobby, airport?

gaereagdag

Um. Warning to Gen Y people. The following is a Gen X statement:

I do not have a mobile phone or laptop; I've never got into them.

THe options suggested of a hotspot, library etc are not realistic for where I live. There is nobody else in my area who uses the internet..um...it's a plus 55 demographic area where people don't know the internet from a tomato.

The issue isn't if I could make ONE move; I could move right now. It's if I can make 9 games worth of moves.

Past 8 am I won't be able to make any moves. Then the internet will sink again.

LoekBergman

And when will it be acceptable again? Is there any regularity in it? Is there any pattern related to daily events in your surrounding? Like for instance a lot of people starting to work simultaneously?
