I think that chess can damage your academic studies very much. The problem is that chess drains your mental reserves, so that even if you allow the time to do your studies you will find your mind too tired to do justice to your studies. I would advise you to not study chess until you have finished your academic studies for the day. I would not take a year out from starting school to study chess. If you only have a rating on chess.com of 1500 the odds are stacked against you becoming a chess pro.
should i TAKE A BREAK??!!

HEY!
i am a 17 year old player.
i started to take chess seriously 1 year back...i have not been doing so good in tournaments and i have a standard live chess rating in chess.com of about 1500...
there is a chess school in my city and i had gone there for a camp last year and though the teaching there is not so good it exposes me to over the board chess
in 6 months my 12th standard will end and im planning to take a break of 1 year to study chess before i join collage after 12th so that i can do well in tournaments when in collage and so that i can become a pro by the time my collage ends
do you think taking a break is a good idea??how risky do u think it is??
and in case i cannot become a chess pro how badly it may hurt my acadamic studies??will i still be able to get a good job??
[this is not my real id of chess.com]
