should you give people info on chess.com tell me your thoughts on this.

The-A-27

You should never say your name, age, and location.

Do not under any circumstances , give out personal information on the internet ! 🙀
fggbd

why wound you do that

IsraeliGal

forget chess.com, you shouldn't give your info to anyone ONLINE, or in real life, who you don't know or aren't legally obligated to give to.

i only give out my age and i ask ppl how old they are bc i dont want to be 13 and playing with some 40 or 50 yr old

Lex_ii

but my name is literally my username

IsraeliGal

yeah that was a weird comment.

Lex_ii

Lex_ii

well that's you...i mean ppl stalk me bc they like want to date me  or something...but i only give my name country or age

Abhinav

There's absolutely no need to share your personal info here unless you want to. Your first name, age and the state/city you live in is usually enough to trace you. Try not to share them --The site has an international flag as well if you wanna hide your country.

You can even pay for the membership with Bitcoin and since bitcoin is pseudonymous in nature you can hide your info from the site itself. If you wanna hide more, just always use a VPN or anonymous proxy & you're all set.

how do ppl know this stuff

IsraeliGal

it's common knowledge.

VPN's have been used for a long time now. If you don't know any programs, a free one is a program called "tor".

Also, people have experienced what has happened to them by exposing their information. You said you're 13, so I'm assuming you either watch twitch.tv or know what it is. Many streamers just by showing their face, or their homes, get people who do prank calls to the police to get them swatted, or call in a bomb threat, etc.

The internet is not inhibited in any way, and because you are accessing a server with a hard drive, it allows for great manipulation. There are people on the internet who can do things with computers and small bits of information that you couldn't believe.

Lex_ii

well i know that but like still

Lex_ii

is this why ppl catfish?

IsraeliGal

people have a lot of different reasons for catfishing or not providing their real photo online. a lot of people that catfish tend to scam.

Lex_ii

oh that makes sence but i dont catfish

IsraeliGal

you've got an anime picture thats not catfishing. Catfishing is claiming to be a human being thats depicted in ur photo when in reality its someone else.

Using TOR isn't a good option, I believe. Even for normal use, it's sometimes painfully slow... just because of the way it's designed, and given that many people complain about poor connectivity to live servers, it would only make things worse for them.

Most free VPN's add a lot of lag. Going for paid ones like Nord, Express VPN and Tunnel bear is better. Nord VPN adds like 20-30ms so one won't have a problem playing live chess.
