Site Errors?

Be careful Billy, I am sure that new windows has some pretty good safe guards, but I have seen what happens after a computer runs on the net with no virus or spyware protection. It usually isn't good.

yeah you are right, when i go back south to see momma this week end i will  see what her provider has to offer on one,,

@ Staff

Could someone either untrack me from a thread called "Stalemate needs to be abolished" and or can an option be made for a blocked person to untrack themselves from a thread they have been tracking, that they can no longer post to ?

Also, I am sure many would agree, allowing that thread to continue would be a site error of sorts...   :-)

Thanx

I am in the process of getting myself into a position, to go to school to be an IT professional. I can certainly tell you that virus creators go after the masses who use windows based programs, because their time and effort is more justified in their minds, than trying to go after user of other OS's that are far less frequently used and perhaps harder to create viruses for.

I thought you were an electrician?  Who would give that up to be an IT guy?!

Being an electrician is hard on your body. Construction isn't as prosperous as it once was. I can make more as an IT professional, besides, I can still take advantage of my electrical skills if need be.

Fair enough.  If ya' gotta' go back to school, though, ya' oughta' get your ee.

There's no substitute for an engineer with experience in the field.

AlCzervik

When I was in the trades, some guys would occasionally post a sign that read, "Warning! Engineer on the job!"

bigpoison

Yeah.  I've long advocated that a me should have to work for a few years as a mechanic; an ee as an electrician; a ce as an operator/laborer/draftsman; a petroleum engineer as a driller.

Nothing pisses the guys doing the work off more than some kid fresh out of college telling them they have to do the impossible.

netzach

Financial-prospects in IT-industry are declining as far as I am aware.

Also would need to compete with lot's of bright young freshly-graduated professionals for the decent-posts.

I was thinking about going to tax preparer school.

corrijean

I started out as an accounting clerk at a CPA office doing tax preparation. And here I am 15 years later still doing accounting work as a controller. Don't do much tax prep any more with the exception of payroll taxes and excise taxes.

I agree with the assessment of any engineer needing field experience to truly be good at what he/she does, but with the growing lack of construction and manufacturing jobs, along with the greater dependency on computers, for me it makes sense to go with I.T.

Besides, I don't have to try to sleep at night knowing I make a living designing something that maybe isn't really good for society, but stuck in my compromise, I try to make a living hoping for a better day...what a nightmare. I knew a guy who became an electrician, who was an engineer for a defense contractor, he helped design bombs.

I get pissed when I have to reengineer part of a design and only get paid to do my job...while some dude drinks coffee, eats donuts and draws worthless pictures all day, making more money than he is worth...

Occassionally I go to a job where we are told what they want, we are allowed to design it to fit our standard and then give them an as built plan drawing... they are so much better jobs...

It got to a point where the engineer would walk on the job and I would walk up to him and say, "Here's what we changed. We had to move this because of x. We were forced to do this because of y." Then I would just go back to work.

They should give you an option to untrack threads in bulk, like deleting emails, when you click the threads I am tracking link....that way a schmuck can't have the satisfaction of knowing how annoyed you will be by blocking you, because he couldn't take constructive criticism about his backword opinions, or your rhetoric, that you found necessary to share, due to no longer being able hold back your laughter or contempt...besides, I think it could result in less crap for the system to keep track of, if everyone had an easier time of untracking so many threads simultaneously. I know I might have 50 or 100 I'd get rid of, it is just time consumming and annoying doing them one at a time, having to enter each thread...if you actually still can
