Adverts have very little effect on screen response times, if you are getting slow games its more likely a problem with your internet service provider or processing speed, rather than with the site itself.
slow chess for non-payers
Now that I've discovered that the adverts DOES slow down the screen response times for non-payers, I'd like to make it known that I think this is very unfair. I feel that us non-payers either has site availibility or not. It's lousy having something which you love so much, but having it in this frustrating manner, that you'd rather not have it at all.
Things have to paid for one way or the other. You pay cash or you pay by watching advertisement.
What you are askink for is freeloading. Then there is no site.
From my experience, when I check a forum before signing in, I really do notice a significant difference in the page loading speed. The asian server doesn't seem to be too hot at times.
Although I have to agree with sarkinaiki. Just so long as the site doesn't go the way of subscription tv...you pay for it and you still have to tolerate the ads!
Thats just the way things are bro. If they didn't have advertisements their would be no free access to the site at all.(and i'm sure you already knew that) A site like this stays alive through it's paying members and advertisers. Non paying members are allowed the PRIVILEGE to access and use this site's free features, and all we have to do is put up with some ads...not too bad if you ask me. If the ads bother you that much upgrade your membership, otherwise just put up with it like the rest of us.( also, "not fair?" What would be fair in your opinion? Allow free members some of the perks that paying members get? Thats what would be unfair. Who in their right mind would PAY for membership if a free one was almost as good? No one.) I am a free member as well so when i make this statement it goes for me as well...."Beggers can't be choosers,be happy with what you get."
I don't think the slowness really matters: If you set sensible limits for your online games and make your moves promptly then there won't be time losses and you can make moves same as other people.
