Some of my opponents are very rude and offensive to World Class GMs

Often after playing a game my opponent will say things such as "You are a good player" or "Well played".  By equating me to Magnus Carlsen or Drawey Karjakin they are clearly calling these WCC players patzers and must be stopped!

Yes, everybody who names a GM in live chess chat should be kicked from it.

OMG I just said similar thing to my opponent last night and I get total silence in return. I did not realize that I just insulted him. I'm so embarrassed 😧

I think there is a difference in saying "You play like a GM" versus "Good game"?

Of course there is.  Nobody mentioned gg.

Sorry to disagree with some of you, BUT.  Way, way too much is made of GMs.  Way too much.    I.  They played the same game for 20 moves some 8 times.  Those game are all recorded,  2.  They can not beat a computer, even I could write that program. 3.  They have good memories, why give them that advantage in a game.  4.  They don't believe in 960 chess.  5. They would never play 3D CHESS.  6.   BUT the true test is, can they even set up a 4D board.  You may find that out easy, we all know a pawn can only move one square straight ahead; ask how many squares can the pawn capture to on a 4D board ?   You may be a bit surprised to know there are 3 answers.    NOW THAT IS BEING A WORLD CHAMP.  ps  the computer still wins !

A "good" game is one that was enjoyable... not (necessarily) "well played".

Chessnutcafe

"gg" is the courtesy after the game, as a (OTB) physical handshake or a texted "good luck" is before the (internet) game. The only people (IMO) whom would find "gg" (or any similar respectful alternate response) objectionable are poor sports, whom have probably lost, or are just being intentionally rude by gloating if they won.

Bilbo21

I'm the best gloater.

blueemu

All you need to do is say: "gg" as usual...

... but what you REALLY mean is "grotesque game".

... or maybe "GG" meaning: Good God (we both suck so bad...)

ModestAndPolite

I have disabled chat (receiving too many insults during play) so I can't say "gg"

TheAuthority

This may be a case of misinterpretation.

Saying that you played like a GM is probably meant as an insult, and probably means your opponent suspected you of using a computer
