i still need more info as to how this is happening. when it happens, can you please email me the source code of the page you are on?
Spread The Word About These Virus Websites.

I was making a move in one of my games, and the page closed, this stupid "My Computer" page opens, and says that I have 150 viruses and trojans and that I need to install a program to clean my system. As for e-mailing the source code, I may be an electronics tech for the big chip maker, but I don't know how to do that! The game I was playing was this one: http://www.chess.com/echess/game.html?id=29974458
just happened again.
i was at this page:
http://www.chess.com/forum/view/tournaments/timeout-radio
the page loaded for a second or so and then i got redirected to this page
http://remote-antispywaree.com/scn1/?id=%3D3Wx9zjuNC41NC40OSZwaWQ9NDBzMSZ0aW1lPTEyNjI4MAENOAkM
the network's firewall blocked the new page, so i think im ok
im pretty sure the source code changed after i hit the back button since i wasnt redirected again.

This stuff is still going on. This time I had clicked on "MY HOME" and went here:
http://217.23.5.204/index.html
It's the stupid scan thing so don't click it.

In order to get this "Anti-virus" virus off of my computer (for me) without having problems, was to immediately shut off the computer. The first time it happened to me, I was using Firefox and just sitting idle on my "Online Chess" page. I didn't realize what it was and tried clicking things; even hitting the "X" button wouldn't really work. It then proceeded to block me from using any internet browsers (although it would let me access them if I hit "X" on the fake firewall. Clicking anything else would cause an error and nothing would work except for the fact you couldn't open the browser), and constantly "reminded" me that my computer was under attack. Norton scans wouldn't find it. They would say the computer was fine. Since it would only do this on my screen name on the computer, my dad just deleted the screen name and made me a new one, and it was gone.
The second time it happened, I was on a different computer, using Internet Explorer, and again just sitting idle on "Online Chess". We shut the computer off imediately. So far no problems from either computer.
I'm guessing it's some kind of weird scripting that catches you when you're idle? I've read through some of the other posts on this forum, and it sounds like many have been happening while actively playing chess (in Live Chess?), something where you stay idle on a page. I have no idea how that kind of coding works or whatever; nevertheless I've been staying on Chess.com only long enough to make moves and read a few things, etc., then getting off as soon as possible, and refreshing the page every so often while I'm on. In fact, I'm so paranoid that I posted this message half-way through, then came back in and edited it.
I like Chess.com. I don't want some idiot who thinks they're funny ruining a great site. Unfortunately, I ain't a computer nerd :-/ So I'm unable to contribute much to this except my experiences with it.
Hope this helps.

mmm....get a mac
Want to help fund one for me? I know they're decent computers, but you kinda have to buy them, and not everyone has money just lying around.

Months on and this is still happening on chess.com
what is still happening? did you get a virus alert? can you be more specific?

Loaded up a new page. I think I was doing the rounds on my online chess games, and got a fake windows error message identical to the one someone else copied above. Click anything and it took me to a fake virus scan site.

Run Firefox with the following add ons and youll be trouble free
NoScript
Adblock Plus
LinkExtend (broadband connection)
WOT (Dial-up connection)
Dr. Web link scanner

CPawn,
Thanks for the links, but I have a question about NoScript: I just installed it and noticed that viewing pages on chess.com involves allowing scripts from no less than four domains: chess.com, chesscomfiles.com, pubmatic.com, and meebo.com. Is it safe to trust all four of these permanently, since I view these pages all the time, or should I start getting used to selectively choosing sites when I want some kind of behavior? Is there any way of knowing what the scripts are supposed to do, so I can make a better decision? Thanks for any pointers!

Do not allow meebo or pubmatic.

Yes, I've had these malicious popups too here on chess.com, but just recently (within the last week, but nothing today, however).
I haven't had them during Live Chess, thank goodness. That would suck!
Norton 360 says my system is clean, but I don't suppose that is 100% sure. Of course, I'm using IE, so maybe that's the reason.
Just hapened again. It tried to download a file called "Install.exe" Here's the link. I tried to get a screen shot of the fake My computer web page, but it must be programed to not allow it. Well, hopefully back to my game.

did you click on something when this popped up? or did it just open somehow?
