Stalemate

Hi all,

Can someone answer my next question?

I have had several times, in some games the opponent was out of time, or the opponent was checkmate, but I didn't say so. Instead I got the message :

"drawn by stalemate"

What does that mean???

I also don't receive any rate points, this way I keep losing points.

Also cost me a 1st place in a tournement.

So it's better to try to se him checkmate, then to make sure he got nowhere to go?

Exactly. If he can't move it is a draw instead of a win. It is important to make sure he can still move so it doesn't become a tie.

It's OK for him to have nowhere to go--as long as he's in check at the same time!
