Stockfish depth plus/minus

Hi Guys,

I am using stockfish and arena 3.5 and don't actually know what the plus minus sign means with respect to depth?

For example, the analysis will output something like 32/61+ or 32/61-

I know what the numbers mean but not sure about this plus/minus sign for the selective search??

I know this is an old post, but if anyone else has the same issue, this is what I'd recommend:

Get ChessX GUI, and setup the stockfish engine in CheesX preferences to use logging.

Then play a game and compare the results you get to the logs.

PS. Depth is number of plies, aka half moves

I believe the + and - signs are included when SF returns lowerbound and upperbound scores respectively. When those are present the scores should not be taken as evaluations of the position. There is nothing in the Arena documentation to lead you to suspect that, nor in the display which gives you a more (cough) "user friendly" version of the info actually returned from SF. But at least the + and - signs are there; most GUIs do the same without any indication at all.
