I understand ur point, but nevertheless unsportsmanlike behaviour annoys me. It should be noted too, that when this happens in a tournie the whole thing can be held up.
Suspicious vacation in bad position

Rookover: I with you...abusing vacation time stinks. Chess.com allow too much vacation time and make no attempt to stop people abusing it as far as I can see.
I agree entirely, the rules are clear, but don't seem to be enforced.
Vacation abuse occurs when players use vacation time simply to prolong games that are completely and hopelessly lost.
"Rookover" is right to complain, as it is not in the spirit of chess.

Whaleeyeman: The "reasonable" debate is always an easy response! clearly people who delay for weeks on end simply to stop someone winning is clearly not being reasonable. To be frank, if you can't see ur next move within a day or two then ur probably never going to see it.

Pff... wasting away your vacation time to delay the loss of one game is a pretty stupid ploy don't you think?
I'd just leave it and let the vacation time run down.
What's the rush?!
You're missing the point; it is indeed "stupid", which is why it is not needed on this site.

Rookover....unfortunately there are some "players" who will use vacation just to annoy you...and yes, is annoying....try not to stress....not worth it...you will win any way :)

Really?
Thanks OH, but I really don't think it is me who is missing the point.
Fair enough, so perhaps you could elaborate?

How does the vacation time work for a premium membership? Because if you are not premium member you only have 30 days in TOTAL. But my opponent is premium. Does it mean that there is a difference of treatment between premium and non-premium members here?
The other thing is the poor sportmanship: if I saw that I was going to be checkmated in two moves and knew that I was going on vacation, I would resigned straight away, at least as a courtesy to my opponent. I think this point is very important to be highlighted!
Finally, thank you very much OldHastonian for reminding us the rules on vacation in this forum.

A related matter is the go slow merchants in lost games.
Say it is a seven day game, the opening and middle games responses come in a day or two; lost end games the response is at the last moment. Are they wanting for me to drop dead?

A lot of narrow one-sided thinking in this thread. 1. I have started a tournament in vacation. 2. I make all of my moves late, but sometimes blitz out an opening. I have a lot of games going. I was too excited and joined everything when I found chess.com 3. I am in a completely won game (K+R+4pawns v. K+4pawns and my opp keeps stalling (in and out of vacation for a month now). Other people are complaining, but I don't worry. I will win in the end.

Rookover,
You can get your panties out of a bunch. I resigned our game. I went on vacation to annoy a different player (I didn't intend to annoy you) due to some lude and downright angering comments he (or she) was making in a different online game with me. This othe player put a sour taste in my mouth and I initially left chess.com and stopped playing all togher; then I played blitz games on my mobile phone as I was still pissed off at the other player and I didn't want to start online play again.
Yes, it's stupid. No, I don't care. But really? A whole thread about it? Have you got nothing better to do with your life?

One of the problems vac. time creates is the playing of way too many games.Vac. time kicks in auto. when they are unable to keep up.OF course 3/4 months vac. will be gone and then --? Best is tourns. where day it starts people go on vac. rather then move....not sure why, but sure makes a mess of things

@deadastronauts:
What a stupid comment! I play online chess because I like online chess. I won't change that and decide to play fast games just because some players go on vacations. Why not advising to drop chess altogether as you are on it!...

@mjconns: nice attitude...by the way, vacation time is one of the most debated and frustrating issues on chess.com. Makes perfectly good sense to have a thread about it. Clearly others think so too, otherwise there wouldn't be so many posts.
It would be annoying if you had to sit over the board with him, but it's the internet. Just start another game and forget about it.
