Tactics Trainer not working

Sort:

Tactics Trainer has stopped working. When I go to TT and click on "Start Training" nothing happens. Eventually my connection simply times out.

I am using Windows 7 and Internet Explorer 9.

Thanks in advance.

Help.

Problems with any kind of board-based activity here is usually down to a member's Java not being fully up to date.  Do you know if you have the very latest version installed ?

On second thoughts, it may be your browser too - I.E. doesn't seem to work at all well on this site.  The staff usually recomend using Google Chrome or Firefox !

Any word on using Safari?  I'm also having problems with the Tactics Trainer.  A puzzle shows up, and just as I begin to analyze the board, the screen refreshes and another puzzle appears.  Sometimes, two puzzles in a row will refresh before a third puzzle appears.  I'm using Safari 5.1.7 with Mac OS X 10.6.8.  This problem has started only in the past week or so.

Safari doesn't have a very good record on this site,  PairedOut.  I've used Chrome since becoming a member (had a few issues with I.E. here) on this site & I never have any problems with it but then again I'm not using a Mac.

In fact I've been using TT quite a bit lately myself without any problem whatsoever.

Have you checked that you have JavaScript enabled & your browser & Java versions are fully up to date ?  If so, you might find that switching to Chrome improves things - it's very easy & quick to dowload.

If all else fails, I should report the problem - here's the link ...

Javascript is enabled, and Safari and Java are both up-to-date.  I have used Firefox, and it worked well, but for reasons I won't go into, I reserve Firefox for other uses.  However, it is a shame that two of the top four browsers, IE and Safari, don't work well with chess.com.  Yes, it's easier for a user to load Chrome or Firefox than for chess.com to fix the problem, but shouldn't a user be free to use the browser of his/her choice?  Your advice is good, though, and I will load Chrome.

I accept your points completely but I think you'll have far fewer problems using Chrome & it's said to be faster too !

I just used Chrome for TT and encountered no problems.  I'll use it from now on for chess.com.  And, yes, Chrome does seem to run a bit faster than the other browsers.  Meanwhile, another attempt at using Safari for TT did again result in problems. Thank you for your suggestions.

Thanks to all for their thoughts.

I did install Chrome but the problem continues

I would have expected that to fix your problem Greg but have you checked that your version of Java is up to date & is Javascript enabled on your machine ?

If you've done all that then it's probably time to report it to Tech-Support...
