Loving tactic's trainer it is very helpful learning moves you may have never seen before.

Why don't you put the post's on tactic trainer in date order, so you can see the newest ones on the first page instead of post's that's 4 or 5 years old ?

Mon Tues Wed ...    Date order, correct?

Sun, Sat, Fri ...  Not Date order, eh?

Unless you are a tachion, they ARE in date order.  Cheezit!  What they teach the kids in science these days....

Tactics trainer is great but for some reason it reduces my rating when I fail a problem but many times will not increase it when I am correct. Can anyone explain?

Doppelgangster That's day order read the post properly duhhh !

Lears50

Terrorbill tactics trainer is time based so the longer you spend on a puzzle the less points you get, it' improves quick thinking, but this can be annoying when you get the question right and get minus points for it

Mr. Lears,

Find a calendar and have a look at something you might not have noticed before.   Each day of the week also has an associated date.  Oddly, if you list events in day of the week order, curiously they will also be in date order.  I know, it's kind of weird but they haven't been able to figure a way around it.

Mr Doppelgangster as I said read the post properly, and try to stop critiquing other people's posts as it could make for a long and boring life.

Its the way chess.com has configured the thing. The trainer here isn't a good representation of your progress. They should change it. It's like the thing is in "blitz mode" all the time. So taking too long to solve a puzzle, even if you solved it, will decrease your tactics rating. If there were a button that allowed you to choose "blitz mode", you could ante up the pressure and have your rating drop if you took too long. But the way it is now just makes me want to not use it.

Sadly, I agree.

Lears50

I agree also if you get the puzzle right no matter how long you take, you shouldn't get punished for it.

But if you want to change the settings to unrated, this will turn the timer off and then this doesn't affect your rating.

terrorbill

Thanks, I appreciate that.

If you take too long looking for tactics every move of a real game you will lose on time (or equivalently have to rush and lose on position as a consequence) which seems like quite a significant punishment.

Tactics trainer puzzles have the big difference that you at least know there is a tactic rather than staring at it for 10 minutes only to realise there actually isn't any viable tactic and you still have to play a move anyway.

terrorbill

The problem is that in many cases time is not the issue. I've made response in seconds and the affermation that the problem was solved but that's where it ends. No adjusted rating. Whereas it never fails to reduce my ratings if I fail. Probably my phone. Anyone else experience this?

You're not being punished, you're being evaluated.  Other people get it right too but if it takes you longer than the average stooge to find the same answer it means you have to stay at the shallow end of the pool.

It's a way of quantifying how lowly you are in comparison to all the other people who aren't quite as dull.

Have you figured out yet there is a direct correspondence between day sequence and date sequence?

Unbelievable the crybabies who flit around this place.

I'll bet you meant to say Reverse date order.   See what happens when you use sloppy language - communication breakdown.

If you want to apologize for your initial nasty retort I'll accept it, ya snarly little schmuck ya.

Boring twat, go and get a life.
