Why does the tactics trainer sometimes give you a minus in points even when you make the right move?

Show us one or more specific examples. Nothing personal, but right now there's very little incentive to believe that you are making the right moves

When you make a correct move the trainer tells you it is a correct move and shows the points you have gained, however, in 2 instances where they showed that I made a correct move there why a minus in the points.   I cannot prove it, however why would I lie about something like that.  There

did you get all the moves correct?

sometimes if you get part of the problem right you lose some points.

for example: 3 out of 5 correct moves

yes all the moves were correct.

It's not enough to get the moves correct.  You must do it within the time limits.

Also, they were simply one and done in a few seconds.

yeah thats happened to me before too, seems pointless if you cant take time to evaluate the position otherwise you lose points, thats why i dont use it anymore

Each tactic has an average time recorded with it. If you get the right answer much faster than average, you get more points than if you get it in the average time. But if you take really long to get it, you will lose points. It's just the way it works - there are lots of threads arguing this topic around.

Thanks for all the replies.

The tactics trainer is more about training your brain to see winning patterns and the faster you can do that the better.

For what it's worth, Tactics Trainer has two settings:  "Rated (timed)" and "Unrated."  If you want to take plenty of time to examine each position, you can simply switch to Unrated mode. (Click on "Settings," and scroll down.)

Keep in  mind that, when you're training in Rated mode, you're being tested on (1) your ability to find the right moves, _and_ (2) the speed with which you find them.

I've had this happen to me as well.  If your rating is above the problem's rating, and you go over the average solution time, you lose points even if you get all the moves right.
