It's unfortunate but true: There have been recent attempts to trick Chess.com users like you into revealing their passwords!

For instance... Honest users are messaged through the site and asked to re-login to approve some changes made by "staff." However, the link in the message goes to an imitation login page, designed simply to collect usernames & passwords... And these pages can look very convincing (see a real example below).

Please remember these points to keep your account safe:

  • If you get an on-site message from a real Staff member, their username will always have the "Staff" icon beside it.
  • Staff members will never ask you for your password.
  • If you think your account may have been compromised, go to Account Settings and change your password!
  • If you follow a link to our site from somewhere else, please ensure the URL actually belongs to our domain; if the address looks weird (e.g. "chess" is misspelled), do not proceed!
