Tournament Dropouts

I have spoken to some other people and created another post called Tournament Droppers, about people leaving tournaments after they have lost and are no longer able to advance to the next round. I am still part of tournaments that started back in March but I havent played in since April.

Do these tournaments still affect the number of tournaments we can be in? Is it frowned upon if we withdraw?

Thanks, David / Wildcard

I think so...

I'm in same situation like you Dave... and I can't play in another tournament.

you shouldnt drop a tourney even if youre losing. The winner of a tourney should beat the entire fields very best players. Even you cannot advance doesnt mean you cant take someone else with you.  By playing on you keep the field honest. You also might even challenge that player and affect their gameplay for the rest of the tournament.  Don't do it.  I wouldnt say its frowned upon, but surely you can see how uncourtious it is.

I think what he is describing is that all his games are over. He's not playing any more games, but because the tournament is still active (a second round that he didn't qualify for) it is still counting against his active tourneys.

Seems this can hopefully be remedied, that once your games are over in a tournament, whether the tourney is over or not, it frees you to join another tournament.

I agree that it would be discourtious if you still have games to play but like what Oginshile said below your comment/ above this comment, I am trying to drop out of tournaments where another round is started and I have not advanced to that round. I hate it when people drop out of tournaments and they still have games to play. I am against that. But if you do not have any more games to play and your staying in the tournament will not affect the outcome, why should you not be removed without a black mark going against your record? (Black mark being a stat that says you dropped out)

Im not judging but think of the next two scenarios... If you were at an OTB tourney would you go home as soon as you lost or would you stay and observe the deserving players? ...or what if this is Chess.coms way of quality control? If you were a premium player you could play more touneys without a mark against you.

Well, in this case, he is a premium member.

Also, I think a lot of people leave tourneys when their games are done. But either way, we are talking about his ability to play in further tournaments. His games are done in these tourneys. He is no longer actually playing. He doesn't want to drop out of the tourneys, i think his point is he shouldn't have to. Once his games are done in that tournament, he should be able to start another tournament.

And I would actually go farther to say that I cannont leave the tournament until my round was over. I don't mind waiting for the round to finish, but I am not going to wait around and not play a single game for 4+ months for the tournament to be over whether it is a OYB tournament or online or whatever.

I am a premium member and that could be an incentive to join too. Non-members are forced to wait for the whole tournament to finish while premium members have to wait for the round to finish before they can move on.

Thanks everyone for commenting!
